CCS/CCSTUDIO: Cannot download to F28377S Launchpad using CCS V6.2 and XDS100V2

Part Number: CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

For more than a month I have been using an F28377S  Launchpad to develop an application, using CCS V6.2 050 on a Windows 7 64 bit PC.  Everything worked correctly until earlier this week when CCS could no longer connect to the Launchpad, giving error code 151.  I made no change to CCS or the hardware at the time it started failing.  USB on the PC is working correctly with flash drives. I have tried the following, without success:  .

  • restarting CCS
  • rebooting the PC
  • attempting to download to a different (custom) hardware board with an XDS110 (including changing the target in Project Properties) usisng the same PC but different hardware (including cables).
  • uninstalling CCS, downloading a fresh copy of CCS 6.2 and installing it.
  • running XDS100Serial - most of the time it does not find an emulator but sometimes it does.  When it does, VID/PID is 0403/a6d0, serial number is TI1CB1LF, and type and description are XDS100 version 2.
  • In device manager I can usually see the device as  XDS100 class USB Serial Port, even when XDS100Serial cannot see the device.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Hi,

    Error 151 is described at:
    software-dl.ti.com/.../ccsv7_debugging_jtag_connectivity_issues.html

Given that Windows still seems to recognize the drivers, I can't help but suspect that either the USB connection is only mildly intermittent or the XDS100 HW is flaky or starting to fail.

You mentioned that you attempted to download using a XDS110 as well, but I can't be sure if this was successful or not. If not, then my suspicion falls in the common aspects between the two scenarios: the USB cable (although you mentioned you are not using the same), the USB port (although the flash drives report a successful connection) or the PC itself.

In the light of all this, I would first try to re-test the HW in a different PC. If that works flawlessly, I would then try to uninstall and reinstall the Windows drivers, which are not reinstalled with CCS. You can follow the procedure shown in the post below to fully reinstall the XDS100 drivers, and a similar procedure can be done for the XDS110.

    Hope this helps,
