Upgrading to ccs v4.2

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my CCS v4.1.3 to v4.2 but I don't get it through SW upgrades. Because I couldn't find any mentioning about the upgrade I downloaded the v4.2 from the site. I'm not sure how to upgrade now, may I just install the version over the old one or I need to unistall the v4.1.3 first.

Two more question: is there way to find all the updates and download it manually (not with CCS) and how can I add lookup for updates like dsp/bios, edma3, and xdctools etc.

Best Regards,

Pavel

  • There currently is not an incremental update to 4.2, only a full install.

It is NOT recommended to install over an existing install. Since the current 4.2 download is not the official release version, I would recommend that you leave the 4.1.3 install alone and install 4.2 in  a new directory.

You cannot use the update manager to get updates for BIOS, XDC, etc. You'll have to go to the individual download sites. For BIOS 5, it is: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_registered_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/bios/index.html

  • Ki,

    Thank you for the answer.

Should I install the new version or wait for the release update? The problem is that I downloaded the latest xdctools 3.20.03 but the release notes sais that it works only with ccs 4.2 ( Code Composer Studio version  4.2.0.09000. Note that this release will not work with CCS 4.1.3 and earlier releases). Its' a really disturbing that you release update for a tool for unofficial version of CCS only, without mentioning it. For example the ROV doesn't work in CCS v4.1.3 and it took me some time to find out why. What should I do?

    Thanks,

    Pavel

  • Pavel,

It is up to you if you what to try the release candidate. If there isn't a feature or fix in 4.2 that you need, you can hold off. I can't comment regarding the XDC tools release but there many standalone tools are released separately from the CCS releases. We bundle many of these with CCS (XDC tools, BIOS, etc) because we want to provide a version of them that we know will work with the CCS install you are getting. Sometimes a newer version is released that is dependent on a version of CCS not officially released. Maybe some customers currently use it and don't build with CCS and the note is for people who want to use it with CCS.

ROV was broken in an earlier version of 4.1.3 but has since been fixed. 4.1.3.00038 is the version with the fix. If you don't have it, you can run the update manager to get it.

    Thanks

  • Ki,

When do you expect the CCS v4.2 become official?

    Thanks,
