Hello.

We have built a custom board for TMS570LS0432 micro-controller by referring to the schematics of the Launchpad and HDK devices. We have not implemented XDS100v2 emulator and are instead using the Segger JLink EDU as an external emulator. However upon connecting the JLink emulator to the JTAG pins of the micro-controller and uploading the CCS code, the following error message is being displayed. Kindly help us in resolving this issue.

Kartik,

Do you have access to an external XDS100v2 or XDS110 that could be used to verify the scan chain? The error message coming from the Segger software implies that what it is scanning does not match the device.

Hello John,
I do not have access to an external XDS100v2 or XDS110. However to verify the Segger, I connected it to the LaunchPad via the external JTAG pins and I could successfully program the LaunchPad. The same doesn't seem to be working on my custom board. Can you guide me on how to proceed in order to solve this issue.
I read in one of the forums that the micro-controller could have gotten locked in the process of programming it. Could this be the issue? Is there a way to ascertain this and unlock the micro-controller?

Kartik,

Thanks for the confirmation that your Segger works on the base Launchpad.

The error message you are experiencing seems very similar to the one in the reference below:
software-dl.ti.com/.../ccsv7_debugging_jtag_connectivity_issues.html

However, since the error is coming from the Segger's software stack and not TI's, I would contact their support line at Segger for further clarification.

In the meantime, you can try to double-check HW connections in your board as mentioned in the same page above, but in the section "Hardware checklist"

Kartik,

You reference that you had seen posts about the MCU being locked which is true that it is possible to program the device with firmware that could potentially block out the emulator's attempt to communicate via JTAG. However, this would require that the Segger emulator worked at least one time before and successfully programmed the device on your board. From the information you provided, I don't think this is the case.

Please check the device voltages to insure all is good on both the 3.3 and 1.2V rails to the device.

I am going to verify the hardware connections again as per the checklist mentioned in Rafael's post and the device voltages. I will update the results here.

Hello John,

Sorry for the delay in replying.My issue is still unresolved. I have verified the H/W connections as well as the voltages across the power rails, and they seem to be fine.
Kindly suggest on how to proceed next.

I really don't have many more ideas short of reviewing the schematics. Would you mind sharing the JTAG portion that connects to the device?

Hello.
I was also reading in one of the Segger forums that the micro-controller could be in low power mode instead of Active mode, which could be causing the problem since the low power mode configures the device to disable the debug interface. Could this be the issue? How to ascertain that the mico-controller is in Active mode?

Also note: While troubleshooting, I am seeing a voltage of 1.8V across the nERROR PIN and Ground, on my custom board. Whereas on the Launchpad,its showing 0V.
What does this voltage on the nERROR pin signify?
Kindly explain.
