CCS/MSP-EXP430G2: Debug on Mac

Hello there,

I am migrating my development environment from Windows to Mac and would much prefer everything to run natively. Since there is a Mac version of CCS, I assumed I would be able to plug and play my MSP430G2 dev board. During setup, however, CCS informed me this is not the case as it's one of three boards not supported on macOS. It sounds like the drivers are in fact available to make this work. Two questions for TI:

1. May I have these drivers please?

2. When, if ever, will macOS be a properly supported platform with all Launchpad drivers?

And one question for the community at large:

Is there a better way to compile and debug code with a Launchpad on a Mac than mostly-unsupported TI tools?

My main environment is a Mac. All the newer development boards work find but the really old MSP320 ones like the MSP-EXP430G2 do not. If you want to develop on Mac the easiest solution would be to just get a newer LaunchPad.

A couple of decent choices would be:

www.ti.com/.../MSP-EXP430F5529LP

The existing G2 LaunchPad will not be supported on Mac or Linux.

Hello John,

I appreciate your reply. I'll look into purchasing a new LaunchPad. In light of the price of the 5529 edition, the 2311 is more appealing if it will get the job done equally well.

I currently use my G2 LaunchPad to debug an external target via its built-in six-pin header (UART, Spy-Bi-Wire, and power). Is there any reason, that you may be aware of, that the 2311 LaunchPad ez-FET v1.3 would not be capable of the same?

Evan,

Yes you should be able to use the onboard eZ-Fet to debug another board. There is a small section in the users guide that covers the "isolation block" on the board. Section 2.2.3.
