CCSv5 Beta 2 for Linux does not install Blackhawk drivers

Hi,

I use the Blackhawk emulator for my work with CCSv4.  In the release notes for CCSv5 Beta2, the Blackhawk drivers for the USB560-BP were supposed to be included.  Blackhawk was listed during the install, but this item was skipped, and the drivers not installed.  Is this support delayed?  I am testing with build CCS_5.0.0.00072 for Linux installed on Ubuntu 10.04.

I am working with the LogicPD expZoom-L138 kit board.

  • Bruce,

I don't see the BH emulator support in the target configuration editor either, and I couldn't find the support files in the CCS install directory. This leads me to the conclusion the IDE still does not support BH emulators.

The Blackhawk entry you saw listed on the install was the device driver package. This one works fine in my system (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS 32-bits). Just as a test, do you see an entry for your Emulator (indicated in red below) when you do a lsusb from the command prompt?

Unfortunately the page seems to be wrong and the support will be included in an upcoming release. I will try to get additional information when this will be added.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • The was an error on the wiki page that indicated BH is supported in build 72. This has been corrected. I'll update the page when we have a new availability date from BH.

  • Hello

I've just installed CCSv5 build 95, where it is stated on the Wiki page that Black Hawk JTAG's are supported. During installation setup i make sure the box for installing driver for my JTAG is checked and do the instal. But during installation the BH driver box is never checked thus the driver is not installed...... Have i missed something?

    Regards

  • This seems to be a problem with the installer.

Could you try the following to see if this will get the required drivers installed for you:

    • Browse to <location of unziped CCS install package/install_images/emulation
    • Run the BH installer by itself ( ./bh_emupack_setup_5.0.0.0.bin )
    • In the installer GUI, set the install location as <location of CCS install/ccsv5/ccs_base_5.0.0.00095 and let the installer complete.
    • You may need to enter the admin password when the installer is run.

  • HI

Ok, that worked. The drivers installed successfully. But, I have a BH-USB-560m JTAG an this alternative doesn't exist in the Connection drop down menu. Only:  Blackhawk XDS560v2-USB System Trace Emulator and Blackhawk XDS560v2-LAN System Trace Emulator. By choosing the USB one i get: Error initializing emulator.

This site: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Host_Support,  states: Supported Emulators: All USB and LAN-based emulators from TI, SD, and BH except: XDS560R, BH-USB-2.

Have I done anything wrong or isn't my JTAG supported yet?

    Regards

    Øyvind

  • I checked with Blackhawk on Linux support for 560m. The wiki topic is incorrect. BH has this support planned for December and it is not in the current release. I will update the wiki topic. My apologies for this error.

  • Just saw this thread, could you take a look at the following?  Seems to be along the same topic.
