CCS: ROV - java.lang.Exception, INVALID address

Hello,

When trying to make use of the Runtime Object View, I am constantly getting an invalid address, java exception, as shown in this pictures. Any clues as to why, and how to resolve, would be greatly appreciated.

For some reason, ROV doesn't like bios knl components in DDR. After switching to IRAM, they are viewable (no more INVALID address). Anyone with any idea why?

Could you check that memory address (from the original post) in the Memory Browser of CCS?

Robert,
can you click on the System module and then on the XDCPATH view? I think I remember from a different thread that you are using fairly recent versions of XDCtools and SYS/BIOS, but I just want to be sure.
Could you possibly post your whole project, so I can try to reproduce the problem?

The paths to the repositories which are currently being used to run ROV.
C:/git/one/two/three/Misc/platform
C:/ti/ccsv7/ccs_base
C:/ti/bios_6_53_02_00/packages
C:/ti/uia_2_20_00_02/packages
C:\ti\xdctools_3_50_04_43_core/packages

I wouldn't be able to provide the whole project, but I plan to send the map file to Derrick and can do same for you. I can't get the map file through at this time, though, via Connect. So will try again on Monday.

The map file could be useful, but from the picture you posted it seems that the address in question is in the memory map, otherwise the linker wouldn't put anything there.
If you can't provide the whole project, what about the output file and the file with the extension rov.xs from Debug/configPkg/package/cfg? There is an option to send it to me privately, without posting it publicly. While on the forum, hover your mouse over my screen name. A box will pop up. Click on Send a private message and then you can attach these files.

I tried to send those files in private message, but keep getting this error, same one I was getting Friday (hoped it was just a temporary thing). I'm using Google Chrome to post and send messages. Not sure if there is some issue with that, or ?

Another data point/impediment. When using classic ROV, I can see LoggerStopMode events:

but the new one has an exception error again

At this point, I'd guess that the new ROV has issues with bios/knl code residing in DDR.

I don't know why private messaging is not working. I was trying to send a private message to you, but no luck. I'll have to ask for some help from someone on the forums. Even though your messages contain some clues, I'll need the project or the executable to be able to debug.

Robert, can you check your settings on e2e.ti.com? Click on your avatar in the right upper corner, and one of the links that show up will be Settings. Then, go to E2E email preferences and verify that under Conversations configuration you have selected All users or Friends only.

Hello,

I've changed my settings, so I should be able to send the requested information along. Since I've moved the kernel items to internal RAM, as previously mentioned, it doesn't give the java exception error. So I'll have to rebuild with them in DDR again. No problem, will do asap, since I'd like to get the knl items back in DDR.

I was testing the code that extracts section info from your output files and I am seeing that section .fardata, where the problematic entries are, is correctly recognized. I still don't have a board to run your app, but I hope to do that soon.

I was finally able to replicate the problem and find a bug in our ROV code. However, the fix is not something you could easily add to your current installation. We will release XDCtools 3.50.06 soon, I hope within a month but I can't really promise that, and the fix will be in there.

Ok, thanks for the update. I'll look for that XDCtools release, to free up internal RAM. Until then, I'm able to use the ROV by placing the kernel items there.
