CCSv4 Floating license - in house user control of who can use a license

If my customer purchases a CCSv4 floating license for 10 people, do they have the ability to control who can get 1 of the 10 licenses inside the company?  The licenses would be put on a community server and they do not want just anybody obtaining a license.

Does the floating license have this ability?

  • Todd,

The FlexLM software allows to control specific features by using an options file (extension .opt.), including locking license seats per host, excluding users, etc.

I personally never tried to do this, therefore my guess would be to create a file <tidspssw.opt> that contains something along the lines:

    tidspssw.opt said:

    RESERVE 1 CCS_DEBUGGER HOST <hostname>

    EXCLUDE CCS_DEBUGGER USER <username>

    (...and so on)

Please refer to the FlexLM documentation for additional details. More specifically chapter 13 of the FlexLM Administration Guide, which contains examples of option files.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Todd,

Can you clarify what you mean by "community" server?  If this is a server that would be open to companies other than the purchaser that may pose problems with the license agreement.

    John

  • The server is inside the company however they want to control which employees in the building have access

to the licenses. The server is not open to others outside the company.

  • Todd,

They could try to use the feature that Rafael suggested however this is not something we have any experience with

If they really want to lock things down another option is to use node locked licenses.  If they went that route they could control exactly which machines are running CCS.

    Regards,

    John
