TMDSEMU510U or SAU510 USB PLUS

Hi,

I am going to buy emulator and I can`t decide which one: SAU510 USB PLUS or TMDSEMU510U.

I use CCSv3.3 and CCSv4 for OMAPL and C6000 and C2000 family. Is SAU510 USB PLUS fully

compatible with TMDSEMU510U?

Regards,

Adam

  • Adam,

The TMDSEMU510U has a TI part number but is manufactured by Spectrum Digital. The SAU510 USB PLUS is advertised in the partners page and manufactured by Sauris.

I never used the SAU510 USB PLUS emulator, therefore I can only comment about what is on its spec sheets.

Both emulators support adaptive clocking (good for ARM debugging on the OMAPL) and both say the CLK frequency is programmable up to 32MHz (for the SD part) and 33MHz (for the SAU part) - little practical difference if you ask me. The two emulators also support low-voltage targets (1.8V), which is also good for future devices.

Compatibility covers a wide range of details beyond the highlights above, therefore I am pretty sure they don't share the same Windows and CCS device drivers - one thing that you must consider when purchasing a new emulator.  I see from the manufacturer's pages the SD part supports CCS 3.x and v4, while the SAU part says CCS3.1 and above. In this case I would contact the manufacturer of the SAU part if they support CCS 3.x and v4 and contact both manufacturers to check what is their support roadmap.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
