ccs3.3 Profile Activity Tab info

Hi,

I have a query regarding the Activity Tab in Profile Setup Window:

I have setup CCS for C6488EVM (Emulator mode). In profile-> setup-> Activity window the following is displayed

" The emulator or simulator driver that you have selected has no supported activities for this profiling method.

You can use the custom tab to manually configure event collection and profile ranges can be selected on the ranges tab."

When I open CCS is Simulator mode for C6488. The Activity tab has some check boxes with options like this:

"Collect Application Level Profile for total Cycles and code size"

"Profile all functions and loops for total cycles"

"Collect run time loop information"

Does it mean that in Emulator mode we cannot get the information regarding "Collect run time loop information" etc or do we need to manually go to Custom tab and select the desired box. What is the difference please explain?

Hi Rafael,

The thread talks about CCS4 but I am using CCS3.3.

I have build a sample DDR example and executed it with profile setting -> Functions in range and it displayed no of cycles to execute the program. The number of cycles also decreased when I commented some unnecessary lines in the code.

The thread says it does not work on C6000 targets. Explain?

Sharath,

For C6x targets, we do not recommend using the CCS profiler on hardware targets because it is not very accurate. On simulators, it works well.
