Working with CCS after working with IAR

Hi,

Where I'm working we have a pretty large project written using IAR.

During the recent months, TI is pushing towards using CCS as the preferred development system and we're almost convinced.

Does anyone have any experience with large projects in both IAR and CCS?

Could you let me know the benefits of moving to CCS from IAR?

I know it will take some time to port th eproject, the main concern is the day after the porting, when we'll be asking ourselves if it was really worth it? What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

  • Rami,

CCS is a very different environment from IAR.  Before doing the port I would suggest download CCS and evaluating it for a while.  Personally I really like the environment but I am biased as I support CCS.  IAR is also a good tool.

There is a download link here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Code_Composer_Studio_v4

The download is big as it includes support for all TI embedded processors.

    Regards,

    John

  • I appreciate your answer but I need more information.

For example, Are there any specific differences between the compilers?

Are the constants different (we encountered once a case in IAR where a version upgrade seemed to re-define differently a few constants) between IAR and CCS?

I'm also looking for productivity topics: Pros and Cons workign with IAR and CCS from the point of view of developing/debugging.

    Thanks,

    Rami
