CCS: CCS8 extremely slow for marking occurrences

Hi I'm using CCS 8.0 and lately did a update to 8.1, My Java version is 1.8.0_161

I have a problem with the marking of occurrences and also with the "Open Element" dialog. Both are extremely slow since CCS 8.0:

  • Mark occurrences takes around 20 seconds to highlight all occurences
  • "Open Element":
    • takes also araound 10-15 seconds to display the first result. Subsequent serches (also for different name patterns) are with proper speed.
    • Deselecting or toggling of any of the available search category options gives instant results

The effect is independent of the number of opened files or the size of the file.

Other navigation options as "show references" or "Quick Outline" work in proper speed as expected.

When I use CCS 7.4 with the same workspace I do not have any issues.

My workspace is on a SSD, the actual projects reside on a local HDD. However moving the projects to the SSD did not change anything

This is actually really annoying and makes CCS 8 currently completely unuseable for my needs. So I would really appreciate any help on this

    Short amendment:
    Toggling the "Mark Occurences" option will highlight the results immediately.

    A small delay that first time is expected as it updates the element list. But that delay should not take that long. For me, i see it take no more than 2 seconds (if even). 

    Can you try doing two things:

    1) Clean your workspace: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCSv7#General_IDE

    2) Rebuild the index for your projects: http://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/users_guide/ccs_project-management.html#rebuild-index

    Thanks for the quick reply

    I did a clean of the workspace and I even created a complete new workspace. Even with only a single example of the TivaWare Library I have this issue.

    It did not change anything

    Thank you for the workspace. I used it with my CCSv8.1 installation. I needed to adjust the project variables since I had TivaWare installed in a different root directory but otherwise I was able to build the project successfully. Both the "Mark Occurrences" and "Open Element" feature worked as expected for me. There was minimal (or no) delay.

    If I understand your issue, it is that first initial time (after a CCS launch) you try to use either feature that a delay is experienced and subsequent attempts do not exhibit the lag? Or for the "Mark Occurrences" issues, there is always a lag unless you toggle the option?

    Doing a search for known Eclipse bugs regarding either issue showed some results but most were related to dealing with large files:

    Though there was this interesting issue:

    "Open Element" issues were also related to large projects:
    bugs.eclipse.org/.../show_bug.cgi

    I'm wondering if there are some background processes running when you first try to use these features (though you did mention that other navigation features exhibited no delay).

    Still under investigation...

    Hi Ki,

    sorry for the late reply. It is right that for the "Mark Occurrences" issues the lag is persistent through out the whole runtime. Only every time I toggle the option, highlighting appears instantly.

    For the "Open Element" lag I cannot reproduce the isse perfectly. Sometimes the results are shown instantly, sometimes only after togling one of the options.

    Only thing I can say for sure is:

    • It is not runtime duration correlated
    • Toggling of the option for visible elements ==> Always shows the results instantly

    I have a Symantec Enpoint Protection anti virus running.

    However system configuration is not changed in comparision with the tries with CCS 7 which worked fine.
