Compiler/TMS320F28069: Creating ELF or any other object file for C2000 faimly

Our project is developed on TMS320F28069 controller and the code will go under unit testing by using WinAMS tool. In order to extract function this tool requires an object file of whole project containing all functions. As per the information provided it supports ELF or any other object file produced by 3rd party compilers. But, This wiki page describes there is no ELF support for C2000 family, so how can I create an object file for my project?

I am using CCS 7.1, TI compiler v6.4.2

if it supports any other object file ... than you can use COFF.

In release folder I did not find any .coff object file either.I have also check output option present in C2000 linker setting and there is no option for -coff file.

Yes my setting is same as above, where can I find .coff output file.

COFF is an output file format, not a file extention.

Devvrat,

A couple of points to add to Tom's replies.

- The current CCS tools for C2000 only support COFF, not ELF. ELF support will be coming in the future.
- COFF and ELF are different object file formats. To understand the basic differences take a look at this page. As a first step, you would need to confirm whether the testing tool you are using will accept COFF.
- To your question about the COFF output file, by default a COFF object file (with .out extension) is generated by CCS after successful build of a project. If the .out file is not created for your project, then there were likely some errors that caused the build to fail. Please take a closer look at the CCS build console to understand the errors. Then use the search capability of this forum and browse CCS documents available under this Resource Explorer link to help resolve the errors as many common build errors have been discussed in the forums as well as documented in the articles.

The readme file for ti-cgt-c2000_18.9.0.STS describes support for ELF, and CCS 8.2.0.00007 allows the output format to be selected as "eabi (ELF)" when using that compiler version.

Using CCS 8.2.0.00007 and ti-cgt-c2000_18.9.0.STS was able to create an ELF program for a TMS320F28379D which could be debugged. What are the remaining changes before C2000 support for ELF is complete?

I did note that the ti-cgt-c2000_18.9.0.STS linker can report the following warning, but that the the referenced Wiki page does not currently exist:

warning #10440-D: creating output section ".init_array" without a SECTIONS specification. For additional information on this section, please see the 'C28x EABI Migration' guide at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/C28x_EABI:C28x_EABI_Migration#C6x_EABI_Sections

Chester, you are correct in that the 18.9.0.STS supports ELF and CCS 8.2 allows you to select and build for it. However, in practical terms it is of limited use for now because most existing C2000 software, libraries, examples in C2000Ware are not yet ported to EABI.

Good catch. It is a typo - it should've been http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/C2000_EABI_Migration#C28x_EABI_Sections.
