CCS/CC1310: CCS8

Part Number: CC1310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello,

I'm still having a lot of troubles with CCS8 on ubuntu 18. It is still freezing at compilation time. I tried to increase allocated RAM to CSS but without success. I have also tried to modify the appearance theme, without success ...

I'm losing a lot of time because of this ...

If someone has a idea, feel free to share pls :)

Best regards,

Aurélieen

  • Run CCS in debug mode and post a log.
  • Hi,

Thank you very much. Could you explain how to proceed ?

    Regards,

Can you explain exactly what is happening here? Does the CCS IDE freeze up and become non-responsive? A screenshot can be helpful here.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hello,

Yes, it becomes non-responsive and i have to force ccs to quit and relaunch it ...

    Here are some screenshots :

  • Hello,

How can i get the log on ubuntu ?

    Aurélien

To run CCS in debug mode:

-open a terminal and browse to /ccsv8/eclipse

-run CCS via: ./ccstudio -debug -console

provide the last messages you see in the debug console when CCS hangs.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Thank you very much. As soon as i face the issue again, i will dump the logs and post them.

    Best regards,

    Aurélien
  • Hello,
Just following up to see if you are still having issues and if you were able to generate those logs.

    Thanks
    ki
  • Hello,

No, i wasn't able to reproduce the issue but now when i launch ccs8, my computer's fan makes a lot of noise, especially when i start a compilation ... but i don't know if it is related to my previous issue.

    Regards,

    Aurélien

  • It seems unrelated to the original issue. CCS can take up quite a bit of cycles when starting up or during compilation. So I can see the system spinning up the fans to additional cooling.

I will close this thread for now since the issue appears to have gone away. We can reopen it if you see it again and get the logs.

    Thanks
    ki

please, provide basic h/w details like CPU model, RAM sizw and SSD/HDD.

Noise / no noise sounds like a proper reaction of your h/w staff to the changing load conditions.
In some cases like the driverlib, TI-RTOS, Free-RTOS builds, by default, CCS scripts will try
to utilize all your CPU cores / threads capabilities and bring a power demand much closer
your CPU power envelop then when code writing and changing.

Under Ubuntu you can use the 'top' tool too monitor your system load and a tool similar to this:

    to monitor your CPU temperature.

  • Hello,

THe configuration is as following :

Intel Core i5-8300H Quad Core 2.3 GHz
    8 Go DDR4
    SSD 128 Go
    HDD 1 To
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

My ubuntu is not installed on the SDD.

    Regards,
  • Hello Marc,
I do recommend 16 GB RAM. That helps to start Resource Explorer.

Never share a workspace between different CCS versions.
Exit from CCS, move a default workspace to a location unknown to CCS and start wtih new workspace.
Try to run CCS from shell with debug option (--debug, as I remember).

    No other ideas right now.
  • Hello Tom,

Thank you very much for these recommendations. For a little while, my CCS8 is working fine and i cannot explain why. Maybe an update of ubuntu 18, as my CPU is not very old (Q2 2018), could explain.

But anyway, thank's a lot for your help.

    Best regards,

    Aurélien
