Hi All,
I would like to ask a question on creating customized RTSC platform:
According to the demo of RTSC platform wizard for XDC Tools 3.16:
http://rtsc.eclipse.org/docs-3.16/Demo_of_the_RTSC_Platform_Wizard_in_CCSv4
File->New->Other->RTSC Wizards->RTSC Platform Wizard,
But I was unable to proceed and there are two symptoms:
1. If I double-click on "RTSC Platform Wizard", CCS will prompt me with the message "An error has occurred. See error log for more details".
2. If I click "Next>" button on the bottom of the window, there is no response.
Could any one tell me how to solve it?
Thanks,
Zheng
Zheng,
Which CCS and XDC build do you have installed.
CCS build number is in help about and you can get the XDC version by either looking at the XDC folder name in your root CCS installation folder or by going to window->preferences and looking here:
My menu items look a little different on the new menu and I am wondering if you are running CCSv4.2 with XDC 3.16. The recommended combination is CCSV4.2 with XDC 3.20
Regards,
John
Dear John,
Exactly the case, my XDC is xdctools_3_16_02_32, and CCS is 4.2.0.10017.
I upgraded to CCS 4.2 from version 4.12 , but it seems that XDC tools didn't get automatically upgraded?
I found there seems to be a reason for automatic upgrade to not update XDC tools. CCS is essentially and IDE based on the nucleus of a compiler. Even if I am upgrading to compiler 5.0, 6.0 or even higher, they will still always be able to compile code from all versions of XDC tools. However, there might be existing projects already written with XDC tools, and in this case if CCS upgrade program also get XDC tools upgraded, problems will happen on the existing projects: will the newer version XDC tools overwrite folder of older version of XDC tools? If they do overwrite old versions, will this invalid reference (#include, library, etc.) to older version XDC tools within existing projects?
Are these the reasons for CCS upgrade to NOT upgrade XDC tools simultaneously?
I have also found that my IPC, SYS/BIOS, XDAIS, XDCtools version are all lower than yours. If CCS doesn't upgrade them automatically, how should I upgrade them? Should I just download them from RTSC webpages and overwrite or delete-then-paste the folders?
Sincerely,
Zheng
Zheng,
When you download the new BIOS, XDC... packages it will install them in separate directories by default. If you download them through the update manager in CCS it should automatically discover them and make them available when you are creating a project. Each project can specify which version of the compiler, BIOS... to use. CCSv4.2 is the first release that has the update site for target content packages enabled so you wouldn't have seen them before.
We don't update everything automatically for a few reasons:

Dear John,

Do you mean this?
How should this actually be used (how to specify the URL if I need to update BIOS, XDC tools)?
Sincerely
Zheng
Zheng,
That is the dialog you get when you click on the New Remote Site button. Is it coming up automatically? Seems odd that the Name would be blank since the name is showing up in the dialog behind it.
The url for the Target Content Update Site is: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/TargetContent/Updates/full/site.xml
When I check for target content updates I see this:
