CCS/TMS570LC4357: "meta-data cannot be interpreted" so cannot import project

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am trying to import a project in CCS8 (MacOS) as I need to expand it for my university project. It was created and currently runs and debugs on CCS7 (Windows). I tried using all the possible import function (import as CCS, C/C++) the only way is to import it as a folder file but if I do, I don't have to possibility to build or debug the code.
