Compiler/CCSTUDIO: How to force "tab" as 4 space width otherwise 1

I know in Preferences -> General -> Editors -> Text Editors, there is a setting "Displayed tab width".

I set value of 4 right here.

But, In this screen:

This tab width is of equivalent 2 space. How can I force tab to be only 1 space width or 4?

Thanks. I've read it.
But even I've set "Tab policy" box as Mixed, checked "Use tabs only for leading indentations" and set "Tab size" as 4, the tab size is still 2 when formatting variable.

Set both the indentation size and tab size to the desired value (4).

As you see, the first indent(tab) is always by 2 width. That is to say, it is not same as typing space twice, but only typing once.

Hi Andy,

I did some digging and with the help of a colleague, I finally understand why the behavior is what you see and why it is the expected behavior.

When the width is set to 4, it means that the tab alignment is set to every 4 characters on a line (1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21,...). Pressing TAB will move the cursor to the next alignment. For example, if you are already at line character 3, pressing TAB will advance the cursor to 5.

In your example:

OS_ERR

OS_ERR starts on line character space 5. It is 6 characters long. Hence the cursor is on space 11 at the end. Then when you press TAB, the cursor will advance to the next alignment to space 13. So it advanced 2 spaces. If you press TAB again from there, it will move to space 17.

This is the expected behavior of the editor. As far as I known, it is not possible to change this behavior.
