CCS: CCS v9: Drag and Drop files into the project does not work on Linux (Debian, KDE)

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

'Drag and Drop' with files into projects does not work on Linux (Debian Buster). I can't add any files except adding new files using links to existing files.

Best regards.

  • Hi Jan,
I tried CCSv9 on my Debian "stretch" machine and drag and drop worked fine. We did not do any validation on Buster since it has yet to be formally released. Is this an new issue for you that worked with earlier versions of CCS or earlier versions of Debian?

Are you able to add file via 'Project -> Add Files' menu?

    Thanks
    ki
  • Hi Ki,

actually it did not work on CCS v8.(3 i think). I installed version 9 today and noticed it still does not work for me. Maybe there's some tweak in my KDE settings i don't recognize but on my XFCE4 desktop i've used a few months ago on another machine it didn't work either. But still debian buster.

I am able to add files yes, as well as the context menu in the project browser 'New->File->link to existing..' Just drag&drop does not work. It shows the mouse with a 'no-stop' sign below it. My colleages use windows and it works as intended for them.

    Thanks,
    Jan

I've actually seen this before... on my old Windows 7 PC. I recall it was due to some conflict with another software I had installed. When I search the web regarding Eclipse drag and drop issues, it seems to be a fairly common problem with Eclipse. The root cause does not seem to be consistent. I'll keep digging. I can try to install debian 10 if I can free up a spare machine (or may create a VM).

  • Thanks for your help! I'll try to find something out too. I can try the same on another machine (arch linux) and on a virtual machine (whatever i have time to install).

  • Can you drag and drop a source file to the editor view so that it will open in the editor?

Note that I think you have to drag it to the editor "tab" area to make it open, and not the editor body

  • Yes drag and drop to the editor works fine. It doesn't matter if i drag it into the tab-bar or the editor window. A new tab will be opened to edit the file i've selected. Project Explorer as well as folders/subfolders of projects still doesn't work.

  • Hi Jan,
Just wanted to update you that I plan on installing debian 10 on a machine this weekend to try this out. Will keep you posted of my progress.

    Thanks

  • Hi Jan,
As mentioned in my replay to your other thread, I was able to set up a Debian Buster machine and installed CCSv9.0.1 on it. Drag&drop to the Project Explorer still works for me. I am using the default Xfce desktop environment (v4.1.2). As mentioned earlier, it could be some conflict with another package you have installed, but I don't know what...

  • I still can't drag and drop neither with XFCE nor KDE Plasma using CCS. Maybe there is some package i have installed or i don't have installed which causes some trouble there.

Thanks for trying to help though.

    Best regards,
    Jan
