I am launching CCS 9.0.1.00004 in Ubuntu for the first time.

The installation went correctly and there were no errors. On the first launch, I get this message: "Getting Started Initializer has encountered a problem".

The detailed message is: "An internal error has occured. No more handles because no underlying browser available. SWT on GTK2.x detected. It is recommended to use GTK 3.x and Webkit2 API. "

I am running Ubuntu 18.04. It is supposed to have GTK 3.0 installed and Ubuntu recommends against re-installing it or building it from the source.

I investigated with the command "apt-cache policy libGTK2.0-0" and this library is installed in Ubuntu however, the library GTK3.0-0 is not installed. Should I just install the library with "apt-get install libGTK3? Any recommendations for the exact form/version of GTK3 to install?

Any other ideas on what I have to do to check/change things and get passed this error so that CCS can begin to work?

  • hmmm. I have CCS 9.0.1 running without issue on my Ubuntu 18.04 machine. Like you, I have libGTK2.0 installed but not libGTK3.0. I'm not sure what the issue is on your end.

It is worth a try. When I googled around, installing gtk3 seemed to help others with a similar issue.

Just to confirm, you installed the dependencies mentioned in the link below?

  • I already installed GTK3 and it didn’t help. But I hadn’t seen the link about installing dependencies for CCS on Ubuntu.
During my installation of CCS, one library for Ubuntu came up as a dependency that was missing and threw an error during. I fixed the problem by installing the library using apt-get. Unfortunately, I did not keep its name. After installing the library, I restarted the installation of CCS and all went smoothly from there.
In any case, I will check out the link you sent and install the dependencies. Do you think I should also uninstall CCS and reinstall it from scratch?
  • The issue is resolved now. Not sure why? I had already run the install_drivers.sh at the end of the original installation of CCS, so what was in the link was not new. I had not rebooted Ubuntu after installing GTK3 which I now did. Between the two, the problem was solved. Thank you.
  • perhaps the reboot was needed? In any case I am glad to hear that it is working for your now. Thanks for the update!
