You cannot import IAR project into CSS. There are some old threads discussing IAR projects porting procedures into CCS.

The variable I was talking about is "SIMPLELINK_CORE_SDK_INSTALL_DIR" from the example "simplelink_cc13x2_26x2_sdk_3_10_00_53/examples/rtos/CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL/ble5stack/simple_peripheral_oad_offchip"

I think the CCS behavior is similar to what is described in the following thread:
e2e.ti.com/.../684126

My question is how to add the "simplelink" files used in the project to version control and get CCS to actually use these files instead of the ones in the default installation location in C:\ti\simplelink...

Btw. I have worked with CCS4,5,6 for C2000 MCUs for several years and recently CCS8 for MSP430. It therefore surprises me how hard it is to accomplish what I need with the simplelink examples. Of-cause this is a mush more complex SW stack, but still.

I do not see SIMPLELINK_CORE_SDK_INSTALL_DIR.
Do you mean: COM_TI_SIMPLELINK_CC13X2_26X2_SDK_INSTALL_DIR ?

Any example project consists of local and symbolically linked files.
If you need to modify linked resources copy them to workspace/project structure. This is the way I prefer. 

Of course you can place both workspace/project and entire SDK under version control tool.
