CCS/RF430FRL152H: Why DEMO MODE Does Not Work

Part Number: RF430FRL152H

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

We created the following circuit using RF430FRL152H.
And then we made an antenna. (The antenna we created has an inductance of 1 uH, and it's about the same size as the antenna in the RF430FRL152HEVM.)

When you attempt to operate the DEMO MODE in conjunction with the GUI, it fails with the error 'can not write to the device' or 'cannot read the device'.
I wonder what's wrong.

Another question is, the VDDH pin has a voltage of 2.2V for the RF430FRL152HEVM.
But why, on the other hand, do we have only 1.4V in our circuitry?

  • Hello Hyosung,

One of my colleagues will take a look at the details here and comment early next week. I suspect not enough power is being delivered, particularly is VDDH is at 1.4V. A good way to test would be to not RF power the custom circuit and see if you can read the tag when it is powered from a stable source.
  • Hello Hyosung,

your antenna has a much lower inductance (1uH) then the EVM antenna (1.8uH). Have you changed also the resonance cap C1 to achieve the resonance frequency of 13.56MHz?

If not already done please see the "Antenna Design Guide" :

As Ralph has written the VDDH with 1.4V is not enough. Have you connect anything that draws power from the device?

    Best regards,
    Helfried
