CCS/TMDSICE3359: SFTP connect issue

Part Number: TMDSICE3359
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3359, TPS65910

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi

I have the same problem as outlined in this case:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/tools/ccs/f/81/t/793053?tisearch=e2e-quicksearch&keymatch=Failed%20to%20connect%20SFTP%20subsystem:%20Remote%20host%20may%20not%20have%20sftp-server%20installed%20:%20java.io.IOException:%20inputstream%20is%20closed

The case is resolved without explanation on how it was resolved.

Basically, when I try to enable the Remote System Explorer from CCS, and follow the steps to set up the communication, once I try to connect, I get the error: "Failed to connect SFTP subsystem: Remote host may not have sftp-server installed : java.io.IOException: inputstream is closed"

Like explained in the case in the link, I can see sftp as follows:

farouk@farouk-Z87X-UD4H:~/ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-05.03.00.07/targetNFS/usr/libexec$ ls | grep sftp
sftp-server

but in my am335x-evm running on TMDSICE_v2, I have a small number of entries and none match sftp-server.

Regards
Farouk

  • I tried booting straight from the SD card. It did not make a difference.

I also used the boot over tftp that and that did not make any difference either. Here is the booting from tftp:

  • The image file I have loaded is somewhat smaller than the one you loaded in a previous case when we were trying to get Uboot to work over tftp .

I have 3834368 (3a8200 hex) as you can see above. You have downloaded 3871232 bytes in the previous case.

Also, I have installed Processor SDK first, and then installed CCS studio. There is another process where resource explorer is used to install Processor SDK from within CCS, obviously once CCS is installed. Could this be a cause of the problem of sftp-server and many other components in /usr/libexec not showing up in the zImage file? I can uninstall both the CCS and Processor SDK and install Processor SDK from within CCS if you know this is a mistake on my part.

    Best Regards

    Farouk

  • Hi

I have also recreated the SD card. I had two options to choose from:

    1) tisdk-docker-rootfs-image-am335x-evm.tar.xz

    2) tisdk-rootfs-image-am335x-evm.tar.xz

and I chose 2 because the file size was much larger.

I checked my ~/ti-processor....-05.03.00.07/targetNFS/usr/libexec and the fstp is there, however, again, it did not turn up in my /usr/libexec on the target am335x-evm. There are other files that are missing too. It seems something is wrong in NFS. Right?

  • Hello and thank you for your post and the detailed information.

I created a card with the SD Card script as you outlined above and booted it on an EVM. This is what I see in /usr/liexec on that target board:

Do you see the sftp-server file in red above?

Please not, I didn't use NFS at this point. However, I did extract the provided FS to a folder that could be mounted with NFS and it also contained the file above.

I was also able to connect to the board using CCSv8's Remote System Explorer, which indicates to me that the server is working.

If you don't see the file above on the SD card or your NFS directory, I would be concerned that something was amiss with your SDK installation.

    I hope this helps you.

  • Hi Ron,

Thanks for posting the info. I gathered that there was something wrong with my rootfs file. I discovered after I had posted the messages, that the rootfs on my SD card was lacking the files in /usr/libexec. I repeated to make the SD card again, but I still had the same problem. I reinstalled everything, including the SDK and CCS and then I had a complete set of files.

I can boot from the SD card and I have the sftp server running and I have connected through CCS and exchanged files between the host and the target using RSE. All is working. The only thing that is still not working properly is mounting over NFS between the host and the target EVM. The mounting is only working over SD card. I will come back to this and investigate it properly to see what the problem is. For now, I am going to set up the debugger in CCS and make sure I finally have a development environment that I am comfortable with.

    Thanks and best regards

    Farouk
