Yes I've done that but CCS still cannot find the compiler.

What compiler family are you using (ARM? C2000? MSP430? etc)?

I'm trying to use C2000. CCS is only discovering the ARM compilers.

Did you install C2000 device support when you installed CCS? Can you create a new project for a C2000 device?

I don't think so. I did install Compiler 5.2.8, I don'y know if that is the same. 

I can only create a new project for a ARM device.

Ok, sounds like you do not have C2000 support installed. Without it, CCS will not detect the C2000 compiler. 

Re-run the CCS installer and select your existing CCS installation directory. The installer will detect an existing installation and allow you to add components that were not originally installed. Follow the install wizard and make sure you enable the option for C2000 support.

Alright I did that but CCS still cannot discover the compiler.

If you create a new project now, I assume you have the full list of F28x devices available. Is this correct?

This is what I have.

I see some concerto devices (which have a F28 on them).

What exact device are you working with? Does it show up in the device list?

I am working with the Tiva TM4C123GH6PM. Yes it does show up on the device list.

That is a Cortex-M device. Why do you need the C2000 compiler?

The project I'm trying work on won't compile because it was originally built with a different compiler. When I try to build the project I get the following error message.

"This project was created using a version of compiler that is not currently installed - 5.2.8 [ARM]. See 'Help > Install New Software' and select 'Code Generation Tools Updates' to check if this compiler is available through a CCS update. Visit <a href="liveaction:OpenAppCenter">CCS App Center</a> to get the latest compiler support. Or <a href="software-dl.ti.com/.../a> and install the compiler, then register it with CCS through 'Preferences > CCS > Build > Compilers'. EncoderTestFxture_GUI properties Problem"

When I go to the projects properties I get this.

So I figured that meant I needed the TI v5.2.8 compiler for this project.

You need the ARM compiler version 5.2.8, not C2000. Try getting that via 'Help -> Install New Software' and then select 'Code Generation Tools Updates' in the "Work with:" drop-down list.

Make sure the "Show only latest versions of available software" option is disabled and select the compiler for ARM v5.2.8:

Ok I see the one I want, but when I try to install it says the request cannot be complete because a newer version is already installed.

Do you already have 5.2.9 installed?

What is your full list of available compilers? Provide a screenshot like below:
