I have tried:

- clean all previous install dirs then retry

- disconnect from internet during install (has been noted in similar threads)

I have extracted the zip, then double clicked on the .exe, when ask to extract I have extracted again, then I have run the exec as Administrator and as normal User ( there is only on admin user on this box)

but it always hangs ...

Thanks for your help

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

Can you provide all the logs in: C:\ti\ccs910\ccs\install_logs

You can zip up the whole folder and attach it to this thread.

    Thanks

    ki

  • here it is :

    0143.install_logs.zip

    Thanks

    Peter

  • Thanks Peter. I have sent the log to the engineering team for analysis. i will let you know of any updates

    Thanks

    ki

  • Peter,

As you observed, the installation is hanging at the point where the debug probe drivers are being installed. As that section did not complete, its logs were left in the TEMP folder.

To get those logs, would you be able to open an Explorer windows and enter %TEMP% in the address bar. This should take you to the temp folder. If you sort by modified date, please grab the most recent few "bitrock_installer_xxxxx.log" files and attach them here.  The "xxxxx" part of the file name is process ID and changes for each run.  I'm hoping this will provide a hint as to what the installer is having trouble with.

  • Hi Andy

    Thank you

I don't have access to that windows box until Sept 8th.

I'd like to leave that thread open and I am getting back to you as soon as I can, if that is ok for you.

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • No problem Peter.

  • Hi Andy

    Here are the logs.

    Thanks

    Any news on this ?

  • Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, the logs provided no hints as to what might be wrong. I can offer two possible routes to pursue.

We can try to run this specific piece of the overall CCS install by itself and see if we can get more information from this. By running this subcomponent by itself it might be more obvious what the issue is.   The second option is to try the CCS v9.2 beta release. There are not many changes between v9.1 and v9.2 but a beta release might not be suitable for your needs.

For the first approach, could you download this file (this is the same executable being run during the CCS install, but just separated out).

Run this EXE and select a temporary folder to install it into. Say C:\temp\emupack. Does this complete?

For the second option, I'll send you a download link separately if you want to try it (please accept my friend request from the forum when you get it).

  • Hi Peter,

I just recently installed CCS 8.3 and 9.1 on Win7/64bit machine without any issues, disable all virus protection disable the firewall or accept the popups to allow private/public access. Perhaps you might try to uninstall any previously installed emulation drivers from Windows programs & features in the control panel prior to running setup again.

  • Hi Andy

When I try to download the file ( after clicking on "Continue" ), I get this:

    - TI SSO Login Error -

The TI Box site is currently locked for new accounts. We appreciate your patence while we work through this issue.

Since the installer (also the beta one you sent me  ) hangs when trying to install the ti emulator pack, I tried to download it separately, I get:

Sorry! We are currently doing site maintenance.

This part of the TI website is currently undergoing scheduled system maintenance.

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you try again later.

I set up a new machine with a vanilla Win7 64 bit installation to no avail. There is no firewall, no anti-virus.

Do I need a specific service pack ?

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • Hi BP101, Andy

Thanks for the hint BP101, it helped me to find the possible problem: When I install CCC 9.1 and select only MSP430 as target, the installation succeeds.

As soon as I select "CC13xx CC26xx" the install hangs at com.ti.emulation.pack.win64 , it can't even be cancelled.

When I install TI Emulators and device support CC13xx CC26xx from within CCS ( having only selected MSP430 during install), the installer is restarted during CCS restart. Here I get popup windows from Windows asking me if I agree to install unsigned drivers. After agreeing, the install succeeds !. These popups never came up during the unsuccessful install attemps from within Windows Explorer.

So my guess is that due to some race condition or hardware dependent delay I do not get to see the popup windows asking me to accept the unsigned driver install and the install hangs indefinitely with no hint in the log files either. This might be a bug that is user dependent and therefore very difficult to test and repeat.

One solution might be to hand out signed drivers or ask the user to disable the driver check during install ( the latter is a hack of course).

Maybe TI could try to repeat this problem by starting from a vanilla Win 7 install with all current updates applied and then just install the CC13xx CC26xx target ?

BTW: I had the same problem when trying to install on vanilla Win10 Home.

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • Hi  Peter,

Sorry about the trouble with the download links. I was not aware of any issues with using this service. :(

Wow, you've completely debugged this yourself!  Thank you for the info about what you've found.  There should not be any unsigned drivers in CCS. I'll give this a try on a "clean" Windows 7 to see if I can duplicate the issue.

  • Hi Andy

Thanks,  I am looking forward to reading your results ...

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • FYI, I'm able to reproduce this problem on Windows 7 with CCS v9.1. I do not see the issue on Windows 10. The same driver installed on the same machine directly from the command line does not have any issues. Running "signtool verify /pa" on the command line does not find issues with the signature.

  • Hi Andy

Thanks for the testing. Since Win7 (Pro) is my prefered host dev platform, I haven't further analyzed the situation on Win10 ( only a 3 day license).

I conclude that this is a bug under Win7 and I suppose that it will addressed in an upcoming release.

    Thanks for your help

    Kind regards

    Peter

  • One other update.  The issue seems to be related to a missing root certificate on Windows 7.   The issue will not occur after the "Verisign Universal Root Certification Authority" has been added as a trusted root.

  • Hi Andy

Thanks for the update, this might explain my problems with the WIn10 Home install because I tried the installer before updating win, unfortunately I am unable to reverify this because it was just a temporary license.

Anyway, if someone has similar problems, this thread could be helpful for Win 7 - Win 10.

    Kind regards

    Peter
