CCS with DM816x EVM?

Code Composer Studio has a free licensing option to allow it to be used with EVM boards and with XDS100 emulators.

My impression is that this works because the EVM boards have the equivalent of a XDS100 built onto the EVM board.

My DM816x EVM for the new Integra 6A816x processor (part number 702380-1001 rev B) doesn't seem to have the built-in XDS100.

Will the free CCS license work with this EVM?

  • The free license supports most on-board USB emulation, not just XDS100. This includes many of the on-board XDS510 emulation on DSK/EVMs.

Does the DM816x have any on-board emulation?

Not as far as I know.  The only two USB connectors on the board are connected directly to the USB ports of the TMS320C6A816x (C6A816x "Integra") CPU.  There's an MSP430 CPU on the board, but it only has a RS232 connection and it's only hooked up for voltage/current monitoring.

  • If there is no on-board emulation, you'll have to use an external XDS100 emulator to use the free bundled license. Otherwise you will need a full license.
