CCS/EK-TM4C1294XL: Debugging of TM4C1294NCPDT MCU from external Stellaris TIVA MCU TM4C123GH6PMI

Part Number: EK-TM4C1294XL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C1294NCPDT,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi

I'm planning to use the TM4C1294NCPDT MCU on my costume made PCB where I need to add to my PCB some pins for debugging,

So i thought if i can use the EK-TM4C1294XL Stellaris debugger through the on board X1 terminals for programming of an external MCU.

I tried to test this between two different EK-TM4C1294XL boards but i get error communication as in the pictures below, so is there any suggestions?

  • Hi,

Page 4 of the EK-TM4C129XL Rev D Schematics mention that you need to remove the 0Ω resistors to debug a MCU outside of the board. This is expected as the built-in TM4C129 device will impact the JTAG communications.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • So I understood that there is no issues with the used connections, right?

because if the problem is in the 0 OHM only so the there will be no problem to use these X1 terminals in my costume made PCB.

  • Hani,

The connections themselves are not a problem. Just keep in mind they need to be as short as possible to avoid any communcations issues.
