CCS/MSP430G2553: CCS 9.1 does not support my MSP430G2553 board on Linux Mint?

Recently installed the newest version of CCS on my Linux Mint machine, but all I get is this "USB FET not found" thing, when I hit debug, yet the CCS wiki says it supports the dev board, and I could naturally see it on the scroll down menu in CCS (Why add something to the scroll down menu, if you are not going to support it???) So I tried google, found a whole bunch of threads with the same issue. But the only thing was, they were all like 4-5 years old.

I somewhat like Linux, am I now stuck with a dev board that my PC cant run? Do you guys have any recommendations for a dev board supported by CCS Linux version?

Saying this is frustrating is an understatement. I takes like 30 days for a new board to arrive to where I live.

Hi,

Which board are you using? During install, CCS shows that the board MSP-EXP430G2 does not work on Linux (and OSX). That is not the case for MSP-EXP430G2ET, though.

If you have the latest version, there is a chance you need to run the post install step according to the CCS Linux Host Support instructions at:

https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_linux_host_support.html

I am using MSP430G2 (really old...) Does this mean I can just go through post setup config for my board to work?

Could you recommend a dev board that is supported by Linux?

Yes, this board would not work (it was released a long time before CCS fully supported LInux, thus the disconnect - more on this here).

However, you can still use your board in Linux through Energia (based on Wiring interface) or using msp430gcc package with CCS. More on this, check here.

As I hinted above, pretty much any other MSP board works under Linux - if you still want to use the PDIP version of the MSP430, you can get the MSP-EXP430G2ET for example. I have one here and it works quite well.

Apart from that, many other launchpads (MSP430, MSP432, CC32xx wi-fi, CC26xx BLE, CC13xx low-power RF) work with Linux and CCS.

I have decided to try another brand of dev boards, since I don't want to jump through all those hoops to get the thing to work, and still end up with a solution I don't like.

I may also buy a TI dev board that is newer than the MSP430G2, because I was starting to like the one I had, after many hours of suffering :-)
