CCS/AM5728: CCS platform support for Beagle Bone AI

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5729

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Is there a plan to provide proper support for the Beagle Bone AI platform?

It would be useful to have the BB AI be a supported platform within CCS so that we can use JTAG to load and run various bare-metal test applications.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

At this moment there is no commissioned support for BeagleBone AI in CCS, but that does not mean it will never happen.

At any rate, I am unsure how BeagleBone AI deviates from other AM572x platforms such as the GPEVM and the IDK. If you have such board, are you able to connect to it using one of these two other platform configurations?

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Oops, I see I used the wrong processor in the tag for this issue. The BB AI uses an AM5729, not an AM5728. Would the expectation be that CCS will connect ok to a totally different processor?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  • Andrew,

From a pure JTAG perspective, the AM5729 is a superset of the AM5728 (it has four EVE cores) and may also have some extra peripherals. If you are not connecting to these EVE cores, there is a high probability the connection using a GPEVM_AM572X or a IDK_AM572X  will work.

At any rate the AM5729 device is still in preview state and I requested information about how to fully support this new device variant.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Andrew,

The AM5729 device will be supported by CCS in the next release 9.3, although you can connect using the AM5728 device already existing.

The BeagleBone AI, however, will require platform validation and at this moment there are no plans to add this. However, I will post on this thread in case this changes.

    Regards,

    Rafael
