CCS: Questions on Migrating CCS Servers

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CODECOMPOSER

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

My customer plans to migrate CCS2 and CCS3 from one of their servers to another. Are there any things to be wary of during a server migration? Any guidelines that you can provide? How will this impact their users during this migration?

FYI they need to remain with our legacy CCS2 and CCS3.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

What kind of servers are they installed on right now and what kind of servers are they planning to migrate to?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Ki,

As far as the type of server, I have looked at the details and all I see is that it is

    • a FLEX license type
    • a Windows OS

It will most likely be a similar environment the licenses are migrated to, I won’t have those details until the License Server Admin for our team makes a decision based on the tool type and number of licenses. It looks like CodeComposer version 3.3 is free to download?

    Thank you.

Yes, it is available for no cost now and no licence files are needed anymore. Floating licenses are no longer supported (since they are no longer relevant).

CCSv2 is not freely available for download but we can provide download links on a per case basis.

    Thanks

  • Ki,

Thanks. What type of information were you expecting on the server side? Any thoughts on the info provided?

    Thank you.

  • When you mentioned migrating CCSv2/3 to another server, I assume it is currently running on some Windows Server environment (like Windows Server 2003 or something). Just wanted to confirm which exact version and also which version they are moving to.

  • Or are they just inquiring about license servers?

  • Hi Ki,

Yes it is just the license servers…not the workstations where the tool is already installed. They only have 1 installation of the CodeComposer Studio 2.  They already have the license, just want to make sure moving it to a different license server is kosher. As in, will workstations with the tool already installed experience any service interruption during migration?

    Thank you.

After some more investigation, I found out that CCSv2 and CCSv3 actually never had any support for license servers. The whole flex LM license server support started with CCSv4 and was discontinued starting with CCSv7.

If CCSv2 and v3 is already installed on a machine, then it will continue to work on that machine.

  • Thank you Brad and Ki for all of your help with this.  Consider me a very satisfied client :)

...just to confirm...there will be NO interruption to the tool's service on the end user's workstation during the license migration? Or is there a chance the tool will not work while the license is being migrated to a different license server?

For CCSv2 and CCSv3, there is no sort of license check (whether remote or local) when CCS is launched (or running). Hence if the product is installed, that is it. This changed in CCSv4-CCSv6, where a license file (node-locked or floating) was required. But not for CCSv2&v3.

You mentioned a license being migrated. I'm not sure for which product that license is for but it is not for CCSv2&v3.
