Upgrade to SR12 not Showing Up in Component Manager

I just recently installed CCSv3.3 DSP Platform Edition and then attempted to upgrade to SR12. I did this by downloading the SR12_CCS_v3.3_SR_3.3.82.13.exe and running it. It ran fine, but when I bring up CCS Component Manager it is still showing version 3.3.38. Am I missing a step here?

You should see both 3.3.38.2 (the original full install) and 3.3.82.13 (the latest service release patch installed)

If you don't see the serivce release version, then that means that your update failed for some reason and you should try again.

What is going on is that when executing the update package: SR12_CCS_v3.3_SR_3.3.82.13.exe it goes through the unpacking process but the next step which is the setup program never executes. This is some issue with Windows but I'm not sure what. Any ideas as to why it won't run?

All I see is this....

SAFE MODE install works! Found a link to CCS FAQs at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CCStudio_FAQ#Q:_I_get_installation_errors_when_I_try_to_install_CCS_or_install_a_CCS_Service_Release._How_can_I_get_it_to_install_properly.3F

and it suggested doing the upgrade in safe mode. This worked, but I still don't know why this was an issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what the root issue is here?

As the FAQ mentions, it is some conflict with another running service. We have seen some anti-virus software cause issues with installation. Other times it has been some ad/spyware running on the machine. Since the number of services can be quite large, the easiest thing to do is to go into safe mode.

Just FYI,

In some systems you cannot perform a safe boot mode, or it prevents some programs running correctly. To help with this, the two Microsoft KBs below show how to perform a clean boot mode that also disables several services.
