CCS/TMS320F28335: How can I automatically version number a build?

I was able to get __DATE___ and __TIME__ to work as Keith mentions below.  I used the code line:

char version[20] =__DATE__ __TIME__;

This worked.  However, when I defined TIMESTAMP as you suggested I had trouble getting it into a string.  I used the Line

     char versiont[20] = TIMESTAMP;

with TIMESTAMP defined in the predefined symbols section as in the post:

TIMESTAMP=${current_date}

but TIMESTAMP is just a number, not a string.  By examining the resulting preprocessed (.pp) file I discovered the issue.  I fixed it with this definition:

TIMESTAMP="\""${current_date}"\""

Now this code line works:

     char versiont[20] = TIMESTAMP;

Is this the proper way to fix this?  Am I missing something?
