CCS/AM3359: the problem with the driver of debugging tools

Part Number: AM3359
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3358, TMDSEMU200-U, TMDSEMU110-U

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear colleagues,

I am learning the ICE_AM335x developing board.

I want to download image to ICE_AM335x board on the linux OS,

but the debugging tools always can not connect to this board.

my OS: win7 + VMware 15.5 + ubuntu 18.04 + CCS9.2

ICE_AM335x: Ver1.0B.

the error as below:

[Start: Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe_0]

Execute the command:

%ccs_base%/common/uscif/dbgjtag -f %boarddatafile% -rv -o -F inform,logfile=yes -S pathlength -S integrity

[Result]

-----[Print the board config pathname(s)]------------------------------------

/home/jjl3/.ti/ccs920/0/0/BrdDat/testBoard.dat

-----[Print the reset-command software log-file]-----------------------------

This utility has selected a 100- or 510-class product.
This utility will load the adapter 'libjioserdesusb.so'.

An error occurred while soft opening the controller.

-----[An error has occurred and this utility has aborted]--------------------

This error is generated by TI's USCIF driver or utilities.

The value is '-151' (0xffffff69).
The title is 'SC_ERR_FTDI_OPEN'.

The explanation is:
One of the FTDI driver functions used during the connect
returned bad status or an error. The cause may be one or
more of: no XDS100 is plugged in, invalid XDS100 serial number,
blank XDS100 EEPROM, missing FTDI drivers, faulty USB cable.
Use the xds100serial command-line utility in the 'common/uscif'
folder to verify the XDS100 can be located.

[End: Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe_0]

On the windows OS(win7 + CCS9.2) there is not problem, some information as below:

[Start: Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe_0]

Execute the command:

%ccs_base%/common/uscif/dbgjtag -f %boarddatafile% -rv -o -F inform,logfile=yes -S pathlength -S integrity

[Result]

-----[Print the board config pathname(s)]------------------------------------

-----[Print the reset-command software log-file]-----------------------------

This utility has selected a 100- or 510-class product.
This utility will load the adapter 'jioserdesusb.dll'.
The library build date was 'Aug 26 2019'.
The library build time was '13:34:49'.
The library package version is '8.3.0.00003'.
The library component version is '35.35.0.0'.
The controller does not use a programmable FPGA.
The controller has a version number of '4' (0x00000004).
The controller has an insertion length of '0' (0x00000000).
This utility will attempt to reset the controller.
This utility has successfully reset the controller.

-----[Print the reset-command hardware log-file]-----------------------------

The scan-path will be reset by toggling the JTAG TRST signal.
The controller is the FTDI FT2232 with USB interface.
The link from controller to target is direct (without cable).
The software is configured for FTDI FT2232 features.
The controller cannot monitor the value on the EMU[0] pin.
The controller cannot monitor the value on the EMU[1] pin.
The controller cannot control the timing on output pins.
The controller cannot control the timing on input pins.
The scan-path link-delay has been set to exactly '0' (0x0000).

I searched this problem on the forum, and saw some similar cases,

but I still did not get the solution, so I am sorry for repeating this issue once more.

thanks!

  • Hi,

If I understood everything correctly, you are trying to use your AM3358 ICE board directly from a VmWare running Ubuntu 18.04 as a guest OS, right? If so, the XDS100v2 debug probe does not work well on this scenario, since it operates at a unusable speed. This is reported in the VMWare with CCS page at:

    https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/VMware_with_CCS

In this case, your options are:

    - have a soldered JTAG connector and purchase an external Debug Probe that is faster with VmWare, such as the TMDSEMU110-U or the TMDSEMU200-U.
    - use your board on a native Windows install
    - get a different host with Linux installed natively

The two last scenarios allow operating the Debug Probes at the top of performance, therefore preferrable.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • thanks for your reply!

there is onboard XDS100V2 based on the chip FT2232 on ICE AM335x developing board,

according to the information, it seems that the driver of this chip of FT2232 is not correct on Linux,

but I can not find the instruments about how to install the related driver on Linux.

  • Hi,

Please apologize for the delay; were you able to apply one of the suggestions I sent before? The use of the XDS100v2 will not be feasible with the VmWare.

    Regards,

    Rafael
