CCS/MSP430F2013: programming help

Hi,

Usually the MSP-FET does not discriminate between a pure device and a development kit. In this case, changing the device and/or the development board would be helpful to try to isolate the problem. Did you try this already?

Also, what is the error message thrown by CCS? 

One last detail is to verify if the device is in the correct position and if the target board jumpers are properly set to allow JTAG communications to take place. Please check the board's documentation for details.

The CCS did not throw any error message, I just can not select board but I can select the device. Next, I try to select program to load, but it is not active. The only active one is "Build project before load. what do i need to down load a bin file to program the part (MSP430F2013)?

I am not entirely sure what exactly you want to accomplish, but I suspect you want to load an executable file to your MSP device that is present in your filesystem, is that so?

You are in the right path. If you select the TI MSP430 USB1 and the device, you would be able to properly launch the debugger as indicated in the view below.

To open the "target configurations" view on the right side, you can go to menu View --> Target Configurations. 

If you want to import an existing example project for your device, build it and load to the target, you can use the TI Resource Explorer for that.

How do i test the connection from here. I have a .bin file that I need to down load to the IC. How do I go from here. Thanks

That is expected. The "Test Connection" functionality is not implemented for MSP430 Debug Probes.

As you suspect, at this point the debugger is not active. You can click on the green bug button to launch the Target Configuration you created. Something mentioned in the short clip at:
