Missing help files

I installed CCS 4.2.0.10017 Platinum.

I then installed the various updates.  During the install process I get numerous errors similar to the one attached, although all the components seem to install.

After the installation I am missing all of the entries in the "Help Contents" except for "Code Composer Help".

I uninstalled everything and tried again with the same results.

How do I re-attach the various help files to the help system?

Thanks,

  Peter Steinberg

  • Hi Peter,

When you look at the RTSC preferences under  'Windows->Preferences->CCS-RTSC', are there any tools (BIOS, IPC, XDAIS, XDCtools) found by CCS listed?

    ki

  • Yes, but in the drop down lists, for example, there are blank entries also

for example, Cod Generation Tools has:

         [blank line]

        TI v7.0.4

        TI v7.0.3

    XDCtools version has

      3.20.04.68

      [blank line]

      3.20.03.63

  • Is there any response from TI regarding this issue or do I need to escalate my request?

    Thanks,

      Peter

  • Hi Peter,

    Sorry for the delay.

Could you check to see if the help files were installed? There should be docs in the respective .\docs folder (ex: C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\xdctools_3_16_02_32\docs)

If content does exist, check to see if the plugin files exist so that the help files will be picked up by the CCS Help. The should be in a folder '.\eclipse\plugins' and there should be some xml files in there like 'toc_top.xml' in one of the subdirectories (ex: C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\xdctools_3_16_02_32\eclipse\plugins\org.eclipse.rtsc.xdctools.product_3.16.2.32\toc_top.xml).

    thanks

    ki

  • The docs folders exist, and the "toc_top.xml" files are also there.

  • Assuming there is content in the docs folders, that looks ok.

Could you got to 'Help->About Code Composer Studio' , in the dialog box, could you provide a screenshot of the 'Feature Details' and attach a text file of the 'Configuration Details'?

  • There are several entries for RTSC missing in the Feature and Configuration Details. This would explain the issues. I'm working with engineers to see how to resolve this:

  • Is that related to the application errors I get when installing the updates (see the image in the initial post).

  • Hi Peter,

What version of Windows are you using?

Also, can you download the standalone XDCtools installer from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/rtsc/3_20_07_86/index_FDS.html and install the product in the default location - c:\Program Files\Texas Instruments and see if you get the same installation errors? If the install process goes smoothly, once you start CCS4, it should detect XDCtools on startup and prompt a restart.

    Regards

    Amit

  • I'm running 32-bit XP, service pack 3.

I installed thbe referenced XDCtools package.

It appeared to install correctly, but when I his OK to restart Eclipse it said there was an error and to look in the .metadata\log file.

I have a few more help entries now, but still not all of them as before.

    8233.log.txt

  • Peter,

Do you see XDCtools in the help menu now? Can you navigate to Windows -> Preferences -> CCS -> RTSC -> Products and send a screenshot?

    Thanks

    Amit

  • The XDC tools are in the help menu, but the BIOS and compiler help are still missing.

  • Hi Peter,

The yellow markers next to the products  suggest that they have not been installed properly.  I would suggest downloading BIOS from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/bios/index.html installing it in the default location and then start CCS4 (the same steps that you had followed earlier for XDCtools).

Did you upgrade from a previous version of CCS4 or did you do a fresh install of ccs4.2?

    Regards

    Amit

  • As I stated in the initial post, these errors occur when I update CCS4.

The first time it happened I cleaned all CCS4-related items from the PC, including the registry, and restarted with the current setup package.

I then got the errors after the first update.

After installing both BIOS packages manually I now get the help files for SYS/BIOS 6.32.02.23, but not DSP/BIOS 5.41.09.34.

I still do not have the help files for any of the Code Generation Tools.

If the products do not install successfully either via the manual download / install or via the Help / Software Updates method how are they supposed to be installed?

The Code Gen Tools documentation were never available from the 'Help->Help Contents' dialog. You will need to go to the CGT installation directory and open the documentation from there.

Sounds like you are installing it properly. There is some strange issue on your system that we are currently unable to reproduce.

  • Peter,

I am not sure what is wrong in your setup. We haven't seen these problems before. Will you be open to having a WebEx session where we can take a look at your setup?

  • Hi Peter,

I'm collaborating with the others who have contacted you about this issue.   Could you zip up and post the entire contents of this directory C:\Program Files\InstallJammer Registry  - for your information, It may be hidden in explorer.  This directory contains the logs from the original install as well as logs from the update.  These will be useful for our analysis of your issue.

    Best regards,

    Martin

  • Hi Peter,

Do you know if there are any administrator set special permissions on program files directory and its subdirectories? There are some segmentation faults in installation logs that look unusual(this is what may trigger those dialogs that you are seeing), however we have not see these errors before. Would you be willing to have another webex session to try and figure out what might be happening?

    Thanks,
    Martin

  • There are no special access permissions on any files or directories in Program Files; although that is not to say that the anti-virus program doesn't prevent access on the fly.

I'm available most of Friday for another webex.

    Peter

  • Thanks Peter! I will set this up on friday.  Would 3pm EDT (GMT-5) work for you?

    martin

  • That will work.

    Peter
