CCS/CC1352P: How do I enable Energytrace++ features on CC1352P

I'm able to see the total current consumed by the device using the Energytrace feature. But it would be nice to see the CPU and peripheral breakdown using the Energytrace++ feature. It seems that option is disabled. How to I enable it?

Hi,

EnergyTrace++ is only available in selected MSP430 devices. Sorry.

According to CCS, it states it is available for MSP430 and SimpeLink devices. Isn't the CC1352P a simplelink device?

Hi,

Interesting. Looking at the EnergyTrace Properties options in CCS (menu Window --> Preferences --> Code Composer Studio --> Advanced Tools --> EnergyTrace), it in fact says that selected Simplelink Devices support EnergyTrace++. Last time I checked, I was unable to find a device or launchpad that supported it, but I guess the release of the new generation of CC13x2/26x2 devices changed that.

In this case, for these two particular device families EnergyTrace++ can be enabled by the button below:

Which yields a complete peripheral state scanning:

For other Simplelink devices such as previous generation CC13xx/26xx and MSP432, only EnergyTrace and EnergyTrace+ (CPU States) are available:

I noticed that button, but it is disabled. I have the XDS110, do I need a newer debugger or something else?

Hi,

One additional detail is that you need to be connected to the device via 4-wire JTAG and not cJTAG. Perhaps that is the reason the button is disabled.

This is configured in the Advanced tab of the Target Configuration file (.ccxml) of your project or workspace. Check section 7.2.1.4 of the CCS User's Guide for details.

Which version of CCS and board are you using? Also, do you see any issues with any of the XDS110 device drivers in the Windows Control panel? Perhaps one is blocking the communications channel from EnergyTrace.

Launchpad for CC1352P2

(Using XDS110 for my custom PCB)

I thought JTAG was not recommended for new designs?
