How to load programming and run in CSS v5

Hi I am trying out CCS v5 and it is very different from CCS v3.3

I try importing a v3.3 project and it builds successfully.

However, how can I load the program to the MCU. It is not like CCS v3.3 you need to connect the MCU at the beginning. In the "Run" manu there is a "load" entry. However, all the options under "Load" is gray out.

Do I need to connect to the MCU first? I just can find how to do it. This is so confusing.

Any suggestions?

It works, although it needs to create something like "NewTargetConfiguration.ccxml". It's a new thing to me, CCS v3 is different. I am not totally clear how it works, but it seems to load and run.

You are right, CCSv5 is quite different from v3. As you noted in CCS5 a target configuration file needs to be created from within the IDE that describes the target and emulator, which is equivalent to what used to be done with CCS Setup in v3. Once this is done, you can just click on "Debug Active Project" to start the debug session. This will launch the debugger, connect to target, and load the .out file automatically. This CCSv5 Getting Started Guide gives a good overview of getting started and working with v5.

Hi Arti,

I have followed your procedure step by step (launch the debugger, connect to target, and load the .out file automatically. However, when i load the program i have two possible files.out. One, the program .out created for me and other placed in a folder "debug" that i guess that it create when i started the debugging. I' using the first but CCS v5 not answer and i don't know what is the problem..I'm working with OMAP3530 and emulator xds100_v2 usb and i debugging a simple program only in ARM.

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance

Oscar,

The .out file in the \Debug folder is created by the CCS build process. This is created either when you right-click on the project and select Build(or Rebuild) Project, or when you click the "Debug Active Project" icon. If you use the build process within CCS then the .out file in \Debug is the one you want to use.

Another issue about this is the next: I working in Linux (virtual machine) and i have mounted a NFS server in order to access the system file of Angstrom. So, i can execute the program builded in CCS in the ARM of OMAP3530. My doubt comes because i don't know if i have to running the program and after launch the debugger in CCSv5...This is my problem..I had tests with the program running in ARM but when i load the program in CCSv5, it is not answer and i can't continue...Some idea or advice??

But i seems that i did not explain ok...I can´t debug Angstrom in my system..I have installed a root file system, the system file of the OS of portatil device(specifically OMAP3530) and in order to it, i have have mounted a NFS server..So, i want to debug a program in ARM of OMAP3530 through JTAG connector..My problem comes when in CCSv5 i launch the debugging, connect to target and load the program (file .out) because CCSv5 not answer..It loads the program until 80-85% and after it hangs...I don't know if the procedure is correct or no..I have seen the information that you passed me but my problem comes later...
