CCS/MSP430FR6989: Could not set device vcc

Hello all,

I know this has been posted before but none of the solutions on the forums has solved my issue. I am trying to program a MSP430FR6989 on a custom board using SPI-Bi wire connections from the emulator side of the MSP430FR6989 launchpad emulator. I keep getting this error after ignoring to update. If I update, i get initialization errors and it goes on in a loop.

This is how i am connecting to our board (80 pin):

GND to GND

VCC to VCC to our board

SBWTDIO to RST ( 47 Kohm and 2.2 nF capacitor is being used)

SBWTCK to Test

CCS version:

Version: 9.2.0.00013

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Juan,

Do you see this problem on every board that you manufactured or is it with one specific board/device? If it is on all boards, can you try with C1=1.1nF instead of the 2.2nF that you used?

Hello,

I have not tried it on any other board. I have only tested it by jumping the same pins on the msp430 launch pad to another same msp430 board and it worked.

Now that we took this chip and put it to our custom board, it does not work using the same connections as mentioned. I looked at the MSP430FR6989 launch pad schematics and made the same connections on our custom board.

I will give it a try with 1.1 nF capacitor.

Hello,

A little update on the 1.1 nF capacitor, I still get the same error after trying to update and ignoring it.

Hello,

Just an update, one of the components on the PCB was faulty and I took it off. It works now; I am able to download code to my mcu.
