CCS/EK-TM4C1294XL: EK-TM4C1294NCPDT

Part Number: EK-TM4C1294XL

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am working in the UART project, I am new to it. I started to study the example codes for UART_echo and UART_loopback. I created new projects in CCS8. After I included the required header files (see the attached pictures for both projects) the compilation passed, but the linker was complaining about undefined symbols:

in UART_echo project something in the CCS8 installation file (???) - see screenshot showing the UART_echo project screen, while

in the UART_loopback project  the linker found lots of symbols being undefined.

How come somebody should know what these symbols are, where they are defined and what they are doing.

Studying these codes does not give anything, as one can not step through the code, run them, making measurements etc. I believe it would be MUCH more useful if the "examples" would be zipped and contain ALL necessary files.

Please let me know what do I have to change, what files I have to include (and where can I find them) so that I could learn how the UART on this board is working so that I could implement it in my work project(s).

Yours sincerely

I do not see any screenshot. Can you try re-posting it?

    Thanks

  • I uploaded the pictured to my Google drive, here are the links:

And I try to copy here the pictures. I have not found the way hoe to attach something to the message. I hopr you will be able to get the pictures in one way or the other , and can help me resolving my problem

    Sincerely

  • Thanks, I see the images now. They are very helpful.

In the first screenshot, it looks like you are missing a library - probably driverlib. It is not enough just to include the header files. All that will do is help with the compilation stage. But without the associated object files, it will fail at the linking stage. Make sure you have the library (or associated source files) added to your project

The second screenshot should that you are linking in the RTS library but you do not have a main function defined.

I would suggest starting with an existing example and then modifying it to fit your needs. It is often harder to start from scratch (as you are experiencing).

    Thanks

  • It was not a scratch I got that code from the TI site among the examples

    Sincerely

    Charles

  • Sorry, I have to describe in more details. I had the UART_echo.c and UART_loopback.c from TI site giving examples. I created two projects under CCS8 using one of the mentioned files (there were NO OTHER files on the site), added the necessary files (the header files in the .\inc and .\driverlib folders - this was all what I could get from TI site, and then tried to run. The results are on the pictures. I needed help to resolve the problem, this is why I suggested TI to provide COMPLETE example projects (maybe in .zip format) rather than giving just one .c file. So my question WHERE ON TI SITE CAN I FIND THE MISSING FILES FOR THESE PROJECTS in order to get the code running

    Thank you

    Charles

  • Which TI site are you referring to? It looks like these examples rely on TivaWare. Do you have TivaWare installed locally on your PC?

  • Yes I use Tivaware, All the folders I am using are under \TivaWare_C_Series-2.1.4.178 folders. I had to add bunch of file from \driverlib and \inc folders and now I can get a running code after compilation and linking. Now I am in the process - just started - testing the code.

At this time I still would like to have this case open in order to use it in case any problems arrive during the testing.

    Thank you

I would rather close this thread and have you start a new thread for new issues. This is the policy we like to keep in this forum. Each new issue should have a new thread for tracking purposes and searchability.

    Thanks

  • I am testing now the code, and I am sure i will have more issues, but take your advice and close the case

    Thank you
