Greetings,

I have generated an image which I programmed onto my DSP using the Black Hawk emulator. When I look at the map file, it indicates that some of the code should be in flash addresses between 0x081000 and 0x082000. But when I look at that section of memory, it is blank (all 0xFFFFs). The areas above 0x082000, on a cursory inspection, seem to have been programmed correctly. To rule out a part failure as the issue, I tried it on a second one with the same result. Is there something in the cmd file, or somewhere else, which could be causing this to happen?

Hi Ed,

What tool are you using to flash the device (CCS, UniFlash, etc)? And what exact version are you using?

Hi Ki,

Some additional information. We have a tool which interprets CCS’s output. That tool shows that the data, which should be in the 0x081000 flash address space, is there. This suggests that the linker did not err and that the cmd file is OK, unless there is something else in it which could confuse the CCS flash burn with the Black Hawk. Or maybe there is a setting in CCS I need to change?

Under the CCS Project Properties in Debug -> Flash Settings can you check that "Enable Range Avoidance" isn't selected:

If "Range Avoidance" has been selected for some reason, that could explain the issue.

Hi Chester,

Enable Range Detection is NOT enabled. In fact everything I see in the screen shot you posted is identical to mine, even the grayed out range which coincidentally includes in the area in question.

Another possible clue. This project was originally created under CCS 8. I think the exact version may have been 8.0.0.00016. As we add new features to the project, it is also being upgraded to CCS 9.

Hi Ki,

As I was removing IP to send things to you, I determined that the section statement for the missing code had been marked as NOLOAD. As I understand it, this assumes that the space has been loaded by something else. And the NOLOAD section type allows the linker to link to those things, but doesn’t allow anything to be placed there. As such, the emulator saw this and didn’t load that area. And when I removed the NOLOAD, the emulator loaded it. So I believe I understand what was happening. Is my understanding correct?
