CCS/F28M36P63C2: TI-RTOS for C2000 not showing in Resource Explorer

Part Number: F28M36P63C2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am trying to get TI-RTOS working on my Concerto device. I did not find TI-RTOS for C2000 anywhere on CCS Resource Explorer or the App Centre. I have installed TI-RTOS for C2000 from this link: https://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/tirtos/index.html. Then CCS detected the new software and I installed it to CCS which shows up in Installed Software.

But I still cannot see the TI-RTOS for C2000 in Resource Explorer.

It looks like the TI-RTOS for C2000 Getting Started and User Guide documents (spruhu3d.pd & spruhd4l.pdf) are referring to older versions of CCS which looks different than what I have. I am using CCS 9.0.1.

How can I get TI-RTOS for C2000 to show up in resource explorer?

Thanks

  • Hi Albert,

I'd recommend using CCS 8.3. There you can use Resource Explorer Classic to get the examples (after TI-RTOS for C2000 is discovered and installed into CCS).

  • Hi Todd

    Thanks, I will try that.

But does that mean there is no support for TI_RTOS for C2000 (Concerto) on the newer CCS versions at all? Which means that I will be stuck with version 8.3 as long as we are still using this device. And in fact we are planning to still use the Concerto device for some time. This makes me a bit worried. In a previous post I also asked about Concerto support which is not in C2000 Ware, but only in the old ControlSuite. Should we be moving away from Concerto? I am okay to get all the resources from ControlSuite, but is there no way to get TI_RTOS for C2000 working in the new CCS versions?

    Regards

    Albert

  • Albert,

CCS changed some mechanism within Resource Explorer that TI-RTOS for C2000 did not support in regards to importing examples. If you had an existing project with TI-RTOS for C2000, it would work with a newer CCS. The one caveat is that you might need to install an older compiler version in the new CCS. We have stopped validating TI-RTOS for C2000 against newer compiler versions.

Concerto devices are still be made and supported by TI. We also have a newer C28/CortexM device TMS320F2838x. I'm from the RTOS team and don't know the exact differences between the devices. Can you post a new thread for guidance from them.

    Todd

  • Thank for the feedback Todd.

I have installed CCS 8.3 now and I still can't see TI_RTOS for C2000 in the resource explorer. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the TI_RTOS.

This is the resource explorer within CCS 8.3:

It does however show to be installed under installed software in CCS 8.3:

  • Albert,

The pictures do not show. Can you try again?

Did you restart CCS after the TI-RTOS for C2000 was discovered by CCS?

Also, are you Resource Explorer Classic?

    Todd

  • Ok I see, my mistake, I did not realize there is now two versions of resource explorer in the CCS 8.3. After selecting the classic one I can now find the TI-RTOS for C2000. Thanks Todd!

You mentioned that if I had an existing TI-RTOS project on a concerto device it would have worked fine in the new CCS versions. So technically that means I would be able to create my project from here within CCS 8.3 and then import it into the latest CCS version and continue from there?

Lastly, regarding training for TI-RTOS in general: Except for the Getting started Guide and the Users Guide, it seems like the only option is the "Getting Started with TI_RTOS" Training coarse by a third party company, since this is what the training.ti website links to. This looks like a very good coarse but it is also very expensive, at least for me with my exchange rate. I am used to TI providing very good training for their products at now cost, to encourage the use of their products. Now it seems like I will have to either pay for this third party coarse or struggle through the Users Guide and examples myself to get going. I am completely new to TI-RTOS. Is there no other training material on TI-RTOS available?

  • Hi Albert,

There is the older training material: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/840835. Unfortunately the older workshop's labs are stale.

Here is the main FAQ page for TI-RTOS: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/840835

There is this introduction also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkA8ss5FAqE&t=1016s (I'll add this to the FAQ page also).

    Todd

  • Ok, I'll work through those material. Thanks for the support Todd, much appreciated.
