CCS/DRV8301-69M-KIT: Trying to descriptions of the sample test projects

Part Number: DRV8301-69M-KIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, C2000WARE, CONTROLSUITE

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

The TI literature proclaims that the Code Composer Studio has samples that are completely described for working with each of the development kits. I find the list of sample projects but no where can I find a description of what each one is an example of doing. Can someone point me to a description of each of these labs? We are trying to find a basic example that will allow us to spin our motor with FOC and implement a simple serial interface to provide controls to that function such as speed, torque etc. The GUI has been very helpful but we need to access how hard it will be to implement some code functions to do this. TI advertising says that there are a number of packaged solutions and appear to say that these are located in the Motorware application. We are finding it very hard to get a start because the documentation is several years old in many cases and does not seem to track what we are downloading.

Any help would be very appreciated.

  • You might take a look at the link below about motor control with C2000. You can find the related development kit with the supporting software.

    https://www.ti.com/microcontrollers/c2000-real-time-control-mcus/applications/motor-control.html

If you want to use the instaSPIN-FOC in motorWare for motor drive, just follow the lab guide to run the lab projects with CCS or GUI that should be very easy to spin a motor on the TI EVM kit.

You can find the lab guide at the folder (\ti\motorware\motorware_1_01_00_18\docs\labs) in motorWare.

MotorControlSKD is the lastest software for motor control that supports InstaSPIN-FOC on and sensored-FOC on the newer C2000 device.

You can find the lab guide at the folder (\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_MotorControl_SDK_<ersion>\solutions\common\sensorless_foc\docs\labs)

  • Thanks this gives me some direction. I am gathering from what you say above that the motorware approach to development is an older approach and the C2000 is the newer approach - am I correct? The development kit I purchased is DRV8301-69M-KIT. I don't see this listed as being supported in the C2000 docs. Is there a way this can be done with the C2000. As you can see I am very confused about starting and I really need some direction. Should we be starting with a newer version of the InstaSPIN developer board? Its not clear to me what the difference is between the C2000, controlSuite, and CCS. Can you give me some guidance?

    Thanks

  • The link mentioned above or the link below should have a detailed description of controlSUITE, motorWare and motor control SDK.

CCS is an integrated development environment (IDE) that supports C2000 controllers.

You might keep using motorWare since you purchased DRV8301-69M-KIT

Download motorware which has many example projects to support this kit, and follow the lab guide to understand these lab projects.

    http://www.ti.com/tool/motorware

Find the InstaSPIN lab guide in the folder below after installed the motorWare.
