CCS/TMS320F28335: CCS9.3.0 not detecting F28335PGFA FLASH Memory

Part Number: TMS320F28335
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi Guys, I've designed my own breakout board for the TMS320F28335PGFA 176Pin LQFP and used my reflow oven to solder it to the board.

After 2 days of setting up the power lines ( +3.3V and +1.9V ) my F28335 finally programs using the XDS110 emulator. YAY :) lol.

I created a new C project with .main using CCS9.3.0 and chose device F28335 ( there was no F28335PGFA in the list of devices).

I look at the Memory Allocation window and it lists the RAMM0 and others but it does not show the SECTOR A to SECTOR H FLASH MEMORY allocations.

I built the C program with success and downloaded it to the F28335 which worked fine.

I noticed that it put the code in RAM. My chip has 512K of FLASH memory so I want the code to go there. Do I have to upgrade CCS9 to recognise the F28335PGFA and then create a new project?

or Is there something I've missed that seeds to be set first so CCS9 will recognise the FLASH memory? Please let me know.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Peter :)

  • Peter,

Please take a look at the flash linker based example at C2000Ware_3_03_00_00\device_support\f2833x\examples\flash_f28335.

It uses flash based linker cmd file (F28335.cmd) where all the initialized sections are mapped to flash instead of RAM.

Header of the Example_2833xFlash.c file lists the steps taken to convert the example from RAM to flash.

Also, please take a look at https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra958l/spra958l.pdf?ts=1605630751858

Regarding the target file creation: You will only see F28335 and not F28335PFGA.  You can use F28335 from the drop down menu.

    Thanks and regards,

    Vamsi
