TMDSEMU560U versus TMDSEMU560V2STM-UE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6748, TMS320C6457

Can anyone recommend , from experience , using the TDMSEMU560V2 usb interface pod?  versus the vanilla TDMSEMU560 usb pod?

Right now the price difference , although not in stock to buy from TI , is about a grand cheaper for the version 2.  Although we are only using the 14 pin JTAG connector presently - this unit will accomodate the 20 and 60 pins for the future as well as ethernet connectivity. We need to connect to TMS320C6457,TMS320C6748,TMS320C6748 - essentially C6000 family . This looks like a sure winner but the lower price has me worried - what am i missing?

thanks in advance

sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

  • Hi,

I definitely recommend the XDS560v2 for the reasons you mentioned. The only thing you will be missing is support for legacy versions of CCS - its support started with Code Composer Studio 4.2.

The lower price is simply due to the use of a much newer technology (and much lower price).

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Rafael ,

Thanks for pointing out the legacy support issue, I wasn't even thinking about it. I'll pass that on to my boss and hope it doesn't squash the deal.

    Thanks again

  • Hi,

A quick detail that may help you make the decision: for the price of a single XDS560 rev 1 you can buy a XDS560v2 and a XDS510 that can be used in legacy releases (several models from Spectrum Digital, Blackhawk and other partners cost around $1k)

    Cheers,

    Rafael
