CCS/CC3200-LAUNCHXL: cc3200 SDK in Code Composer Studio 10

Part Number: CC3200-LAUNCHXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, CC3200SDK, , ENERGIA, CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am unable to fine or figure out how to load the cc3200 SDK in code composer studio 10.

I started this request over with the ti support and they have sent and helped me get to where I could post here.

So here is what we have been through:

    • Well, that corporate/educational requirement is exactly why I ended up having to ask here rather than on E2E in the first place. While I do have a corporate email, it is for business use. This hobby is not part of that business. I do have an old excite email, a couple of Gmails, an xfinity email and as a last resort I might be able to get an email setup for a .org domain I own So let me ask you this then, What in E2E policy qualifies as a corporate email?

Hi Kirk, Many thanks for the update and apologies as we may have mislooked at your attached screenshots. Upon doing review and internal consultations perhaps your query would be best addressed by our product apps team and CCS experts handling our E2E support forum. They provide the best TI product practices and troubleshooting methods which are beyond the device's documentations. Through the forum, you will be directly engaging with them and all the needed references in integrating the CC3200SDK using CCS will be shared to you. Just note that our E2E has gone through minor restructuring and one of the initial requirement to initiate an inquiry is to use a corporate/university email address and update the company information. I've noticed that your myTI profile uses the email address 'kirkdmitchell@yahoo.com'. If you have an existing corporate/university email, please do update your profile with it so you'll be able to successfully engage on the discussions with our product apps team. Once you have successfully updated your profile, you may create your E2E post by logging-in to E2E forum with your corporate email account and posting the details of your inquiry through this link: https://e2e.ti.com/p/addpost Thank you for understanding our limitations here in the Support Center. We will be waiting for your updates. Kind Regards, Jejomar Ildefonso Texas Instruments Customer Support

I attached them last night. Are they not the screenshots you need? Please be more specific about what screenshots I can take to help identify the problem. Further it looks like my description of the shots did not post. Ill see about doing that shortly. I left the laptop off power last night and I need to give it a bit to get a sufficient charge.

I missed the update from 7 days ago. I'm working on getting the screen shots for you but the last time I had to spend some time getting those CCS took literally 3 hours trying to start I watched it load single digit megabytes per 5 minutes or so only to have it reach the full file size then it decide it needed another 75x MB file too loading at the same rate. Gave up restarted and it started up fine but I had to go to work and was unable to finish getting screenshots for you. Please do not close the ticket.

Hello Kirk, Thank you for the update and I'm sorry that you are having issues in setting this up. CCS supports CC3200 as further guidance are given on this document: www.ti.com/.../swru369d.pdf We may have to consult this issue with our CCS experts moving forward to further expedite its resolution. Can you share the images you've encountered upon opening the SDK in the CCS resource explorer? Kind Regards, Jejomar Ildefonso Texas Instruments Customer Support

nope cc32xx 1.5.00.06 only shows me examples for the cc3220 I am still lost on how to get to the SDK that applies to the 3200. I just realized that is cc322x 1.5.00.06. The problem here is that I can not find the 1.5 that I installed.

That is the same SDK version I have. I am using Code Compser studio 10. When I loaded 8 it would not connect to cloud services and seemed largely useless. Is the problem that CCS10 does not support the cc3200? Imight have found the simple thing I was missing. The three dots on the ccxx that let me install1.5 time will tell if that is it.

Hi Kirk, Thank you for contacting TI Customer Support and for choosing our products as part of your solution. Our sincerest apologies for the delay. The proper procedures in getting started with the CC3200SDK using CCS are given on section 3 of this document: www.ti.com/.../swru376e.pdf From the details of your inquiry one of the possible root cause of the issue might be the outdated service pack for the SDK. The latest service pack can be downloaded through this link: www.ti.com/.../CC3200SDK The full procedures of flashing the latest service pack to the CC3200 is given on section 7.6 of this document: www.ti.com/.../swru558.pdf On the other hand, if you are already familiar with CCS then it would be the better and recommended IDE as it can be used with debugger bargain, so you can single step code, inspect variable and do all task in a professional IDE level. Energia code on the other hand is indeed much simpler as it is mainly for hobby style development. Hope these procedures may be able to help you get started in developing with CC3200. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Kind Regards, Jejomar Ildefonso Texas Instruments Customer Support

Number: CS0343661 Contact: Kirk Mitchell First name: Kirk Last name: Mitchell Short description: CC3200 sdk does not show in CCStudio Phone: 15404496590 Email: kirkdmitchell@yahoo.com Company: MAKEABEV Company phone: Language: English State: Open Provide case details or comments: I can't seem to figure out how to get CCS 10 to find the CC3200SDK_1.5.0 so it shows in resource explorer.
I have tried several iterations of installing and uninstalling the SDK and different versions of CCS.
CCS 8 just could not find cloud resources and therefore i could not follow any of the getting started directions.
I have tried installing the sdk before and after installing CCS 10. I read through some posts on E2E which implied that CCS should find the SDK if it is installed in c:\ti which it is. Yet no matter what I do it seems like i can't manage to make it so I can find the SDK in resource explorer. I feel like I am missing some easy step. The best I found on E2E was install the software but no instructions on how to install in CCS 10.
This is all an attempt to try and continue a class on udemy programming in assembly. The class is using a tivaC and Keil Uvision which does not support the cc3200 and I am trying to see if I can learn with the CC3200s I have. I did manage to get the board working in Energia however I'm not sure if Energia is capable of compiling assembly or if there is an newbie guide to setting up a project for assembly in Energia.
Do you have a suggestion of software that might fit my purpose better than CCStudio? (see attached for what I have already snagged.) Yes, linux and windows but I'm working on the windows computer currently.
As TI is ending support for the board soon, what all should I download to ensure I can use the handful of boards I acquired?

Please keep in mind I am a newbie hobby level "engineer", that has followed a class building a simple robot using one of the MSP boards and Energia several years ago. That decided to take the plunge and get a bunch of these boards without the knowledge they were becoming unsupported.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Hi Kirk,

Sorry that it is taking so long for you to get the support you need.

First off, CCS 10 does support CC3200 from a build and debug standpoint. However (as you have already noticed), CC3200 SDK is not available/supported via the latest Resource Explorer. You will need to import the SDK examples manually using the steps in the PDF getting started guide provided by customer support:

    Kirk Mitchell1 said:

If you are using an older version of CCS that supports the older incarnation of Resource Explorer, then it is possible to use it with the SDK as seen in this old workshop:

    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=AC1MmT9KWmPS82a5wldWqg__FUz-xrs__LATEST

The "old" Resource Explorer is available up to CCS v8.3.1 (available as "Resource Explorer classic" in that version).

However, I recommend sticking with the latest CCS version, disregarding Resource Explorer,  and doing the manual project import. You can still look at the above workshop as the other basic concepts for build and debug are still mostly relevant, though some of the other tools versions used are old (like ROV).

Otherwise, I would stick to the GSG for the CC3200 SDK

    Hope this helps

I took another look at this. First off, "Resource Explorer Classic" is something different. The "standard" Resource Explorer" in these old CCS versions is the only you would normally want. However, changes made to the server where content is hosted has been updated, requiring an update to the Resource Explorer in these old versions. Once the update is done, the CC3200 content is not available anymore.

Hence, it is best to simply use the latest CCS version and import the project manually

  • Thanks, On first glance, it looks like the fundamentals workshop should get me pointed in the right direction.  Ill have to make some time to sink into it to know for sure but for the time being lets call this issue resolved.

    Again thanks.

  • For anyone who might stumble upon this.

Manual install, at lease the way i found to do it:

Window menu tab > Preferences >Code Composer Studio > Products >  Set discovery path for the SDK

In my case this was /ti/CC3200SDK_1.5.0

After this I was able to find the example programs in project explorer, and was able to load a failed program onto my CC3200

I just set up ti-rots 32xx_2_16_01_14  using the above path.  Still need to find more time to see if that will fix my failed example program.
