Code Composer Studio/CCS can't be installed on macOS Big Sur

I have a Macbook Pro M1 with macOS Big Sur. And when I try to install CCS, only the Setup screen comes off with a blank window and nothing else. I saw some people using CCS with M1 Macbooks, so there is a problem with mine that I couldn't figure out.

I tried to install v10.1.x there was this problem. Then I made a research and found out that Big Sur will be supported with v10.3.0. Today I downloaded v10.3.1.00003 but the same problem occurs. Can someone help me?

This is the problem I'm facing with: (I can't move on from this screen thus I can't install CCS)

  • I just downloaded the 10.3.1 installer (offline version) and it comes up for me on my BigSur M1 macbook air.

I just went to my downloads folder and ran the .dmg

Did you download the single file offline installer or the online one?  I wouldn't expect that to make a difference.  This is the one I downloaded: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/CCSv10/CCS_10_3_1/exports/ccs_installer_osx_10.3.1.00003.dmg

  • No, this didn't work either. I tried to switch computer's language to English, changed appearance from dark to light. None of them helped. This setup window appears but it's just blank. I tried even "show package contents" option to manually install but it didn't help either.

  • Efe,

I am running dark mode so that should not be an issue.  My macOS version is 11.2.3.  This is the stock distribution from Apple.

    I download the dmg

I run it and it opens like this

When I then run ccs_setup it prompts me if it is ok to run an item downloaded from software-dl.ti.com

I say yes.  It runs.  I briefly see a CCS Splash screen and then the setup program comes up.

Is there anything different about your macOS distro?  Is it from Apple or a company supplied one?

I can find some references to blank applications online with bigsur but no consistent solutions.

Note that CCS works on BigSur but not great.  There are issues with resizing and arranging windows that will be addressed when we pick up a new Eclipse framework in CCSv11.

    Regards,

    John

  • Some apps are not fully compatible with dark mode, sometimes texts doesn't appear due to dark mode color change. That's why I tried light mode.

I run ccs_setup as you done, and it prompts me too, I say yes. I wait for like 3-4 minutes and this blank setup window appears. I waited for like 15-20 minutes in that blank screnn just to see if it's gonna work but no chance.

My macOS distro is same as yours, 11.2.3. Bought it from Apple.

Installed JDK and JRE to see if it's gonna help but nothing happened. Is there some other programs that I need to install?

I can find some references to blank applications online with bigsur but no consistent solutions.

What are these references? Can you please send them? Maybe one of them works for me.

    Regards,

    Efe.

  • Efe,

That setup window should appear within a few seconds.  Your pro would be faster than my air.

These were the links I found.  None of them were particularly useful

This one was specifc to evernote but similar UI issue.  People ended up using some older version.

    https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/133655-app-does-not-load-blank-white-screen-big-sur/

This one was for something similar with the Apple store but was related to the beta of BigSur.

This one was with the Music app and BigSur beta.

Installed JDK and JRE to see if it's gonna help but nothing happened. Is there some other programs that I need to install?

No need to install JDK or JRE.  The CCS installation has everything it needs.  I wonder if something is getting blocked in the installer and that screen just never gets drawn.  I will check with our installer expert to see if they have any ideas.

    Regards,

    John

  • John,

As you said, none of those links are useful. And as I said before I'm trying to install CCS since v10.1. I tried even v9.x, that didn't work either.

I'm looking forward to hear from your installer expert. Hope he/she could find a solution for me. Any terminal commands or something like that would be OK for me, it won't be a problem.

    Regards,

    Efe

  • Our expert suggested a way to create a log of the early part of the install that might shed some light onto what is going on.

double click on the .dmg to open it.

Then drag the .app and contents items from the dmg into a folder.

Then open the terminal app and go into that folder and run:

    open ccs_setup_10.3.1.00003.app --args --syncdebugtrace /tmp/debug.txt

If you can then attach the debug.txt file that will be int he /tmp folder that would be great.  You can also change the command to put the txt file in a different writable folder.

    Regards,

    John

  • OK, so here it is:

    5773.debug.txt

  • Thanks Efe.  It will take a few days to get these logs checked out as they generated by the InstallBuilder software that we use to create our installer vs our own installer code which is later in the process.  They need to get decoded.

    Regards,

    John

  • We have heard back from the InstallBuilder team.  No progress yet but at least we have connected.

    John

  • Efe,

We have a new installer for you to try.  It is the same as the previous 10.3.1 but using a newer version of Install Builder.

I am just copying it to a site now where you can download it from.  If you could give this one a try using the logging command as before that would be great.

    open ccs_setup_10.3.1.00004.app --args --syncdebugtrace /tmp/debug.txt

I will post the link as soon as it is live.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hello again John.

I tried but no chance... Now it opens with a blank black splash screen and after a couple minutes a different blank screen shows off. Like this:

Here are debug.txt and ccs_install_10.3.1.00004.log files:

    0172.debug.txt

  • Efe,

I am still waiting to hear back from the team on the latest log.  I have zipped the CCSv10.3.1 installation from my M1 macbook and will send you a link via private message (you will see a friend request from me).  Can you try unzipping that and see if it will run.  My install was in /Applications/ti

    Regards,

    John
