PMP9126: Gate Drive IC necessary?

Hello,

Comparing PMP9126 to the TPS2373-4EVM, I see that the former uses a gate drive IC (UCC27511), and the latter drives directly from the TPS2373. Is the gate drive part really needed for the extra 1A?
