TIDA-01093: I2c Isolator MAx current consumption in worest case

Part Number: TIDA-01093
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1541, ISO1540, BQ76930

Dear TI,

Please refer below image , which is of datasheet.

It shows Input side current consumption by chip .

According to that if i connect Upper _ Afe Reg_Out as a voltage source to power up secondary of Chip , than in situations when 198mA current is required by I2c Chip , AFE would not be able to deliver, please share is it ok to go in such a way of connection ?

I mean can Upper AFE Reg out be used to power up I2c Isolator?

Please comment .

Rohit

  • Hi Rohit,

Section 6.8 of the ISO1540, ISO1541 data sheet describes a protection feature of the IO pins.  For supply current requirements see section 6.10 Supply Current Characteristics.  The BQ76930 can provide the 1.7 to 3.8 mA for the isolator as well as pull up current.  If the isolator breaks and shorts the VCC the BQ76930 would limit its REGOUT current to its short circuit limit.

If you have other questions on the isolator that group will be better able to answer specific questions.
