TIDA-010203: GaN Devices switching loss calculation

Part Number: TIDA-010203
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG3411R070

Hi Team,

Do we have the ffg, 1. Do you have reference design document for GaN Devices switching loss, calculation? The turn on and Turn off loss calculation procedure for the
(LMG3411R070) GaN for 4000W,230VAC,50HZ input.

2. Do you have simulation file for Totem Pole Bridge Less PFC application? Can you share simulation result for semiconductor loss for Totem Pole Bridge Less PFC? (LMG3411R070) GaN for 4000W,230VAC,50HZ input.

Thank you very much.

  • Hi Mark, thanks for your question. We have reached out to the Systems Engineer who developed this reference design and are awaiting a response. Thanks for your patience.

  • Hi Mark,

The switching loss (both turn-on and turn-off) is covered in the datasheet Figure 8-9. When the slew rate is adjusted, the turn-on loss will change accordingly while the turn-off loss remains the same. To calculate the converter level loss, it is recommended to calculate the switching loss, dead-time conduction loss, conduction loss of the device. The calculation procedure is: assume a Tj value, calculate the conduction, dead-time conduction, and switching loss at this Tj and working conditions.

Unfortunately, we do not provide a simulation file at this moment. This can be done by assuming a Tj, calculate the conduction loss and then add the switching loss according to the operating conditions.

    Best Regards,
    John
