Tina-TI incopatibility

OS - Windows 7 SP1.  Program will not install after they upgraded me to Windows 7.  The installer starts to run, then disppears - no installation.  The compatibility troubleshooter inevitably ends up with "incompatible program".  I am dead in the water - I've tried every option I can find, turned off UAC to try to disable compatibility detection, etc.  NO luck.  I have to get this working, I have a large number of legacy designs that I need to access.  I  have zero chance of buying the full version of Tina, they will just say it is incompatible and turn me down.  HELP!!!!

  • Bruce,

The software does install and run on Windows 7. I have been using Windows 7 exclusively for more than 9 months. I believe that this may point to a different problem, that being the auto extraction package provided by DesignSoft. We see this problem occasionally on XP as well and it is almost always attributed to a conflict between the user's system and the auto extraction being used. Safe mode installation always fixes the problem in XP, but I do not know of a way to fix it on Windows 7 since I have not encountered the problem.

Give this a try and let me know if it works for you.

  • Buried DEEP in the archives of annoyances.org were two tips that got it working:

    First Turn off UAC:

    ·         Start

    ·         Control Panel

    ·         Action Center

    ·         Security down arrow on right

    ·         UAC

    ·         Choose your UAC level

    ·         Slider to the bottom

    ·         Click through all the nags how it is a bad idea

     Then

     ·         Start

    ·         All programs

    ·         Accessories

    ·         Run

    ·         CMD

    ·         OK

    ·         (type at DOS prompt):  Net User Administrator /Active:Yes

    . Close the window.

Once I did these two steps - ALL instances of the Tina Installer, from the first time I tried it early this morning - over two dozen instances - leaped immediately into action.  Closing all but one - it installed immediately without a problem.

According to the annoyances.com contributors - UAC is almost useless anyway, malware steps right over it.  And the other thing  - you never really have full admin rights until you do it.  It sure got my installation going without having to resort to safe mode!

Thanks for getting back with me.  I hope if anybody else has this headache this will help them, too.

  • Bruce,
