PSpice troubles

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PSPICE-FOR-TI

Dear Team,

I lastly could install PSpice-for-TI and after launch the program tried to 'Reinstall TI libs' but this step fails.
I tried it three or four times now without success.

I also tried to install PSpice-for-TI on a virtual Windows 10 machine but get error -12 as soon as I entered my eMail address and the access key.
With best regards
Gerhard

  • Hello Gerhard,

What version of PSpice for TI are you running? You can see it on the start page when you launch the tool at the top middle.

I notice that this file path is a little different from what I usually see. Is this installed on a flash drive or external storage? Have you edited your environment variables at all?

    Thank you,

    Jackie

  • Hello Gerhard,

Regarding your other question with the -12 error, this indicates a failure to access the BIOS information.  This information is used to create the license for the software. Please ask for your IT department to grant BIOS permissions and retry the installation. Because you are installing inside a virtual machine, it could be that the host BIOS access is turned off in the VM setting. Specifically, the installer will need these commands:

    wmic bios get serialnumber
    wmic bios get Manufacturer
    wmic csproduct get name
    wmic diskdrive get serialnumber

    Thank you,

    Jackie

  • Hi Jackie,

it is the current version. The web installer load down something today, hope it is a current version ..

I altered the path, I do this with most installations to leave the C drive for the OS. Normaly this isn't a problem. And the installer already knows this path, because I set it during installation and the installer actually copied all files there ... so it should be noticed.

  • Hi Jackie,

ok, I installed other packages on virtual machines, no errors at all, maybe the Candence stuff is different. I will check this commands later, I guess I have to use PowerShell to execute this lines.

  • Hello Gerhard,

Yes, the license file is constructed a bit differently for PSpice for TI. It is a "single serving" freeware license for only one user and up to three machines. Cadence tracks the machine information to ensure that it is not being redistributed without permission.

Please let me know if you have further questions. Thank you,

    Jackie

  • Hi Jackie,

I am able to execute all the above commands without an error or access denied messages on my virtual machine.

But: csproduct name reads 'Virtual Machine' and the serial number of the disk reads 'SerialNumber'.

If it is not possible to install this Cadence stuff on virtual machines (which is a strange thing) it should be noted! Best on the download page or at least when istallation starts. Writing 'error -12' isn't that good programming style.

  • Hello Gerhard,

PSpice for TI does support installation on virtual machines. The outputs you have reported are not valid, i.e. the serial number is 'SerialNumber'. Please change the settings of your VM such that PSpice for TI is able to access these values.

    Thank you,

    Jackie

  • Hi Jackie,

I use the Hyper-V role of my server to run a virtual Win 10 with 8GB of RAM. On this machine the Intels FPGA development suite is installed and runs fine.

I tried to find something related to settings and BIOS, no chance. The only setting which is allowed is the order of boot devices.

As Hyper-V is widly used, I think I am not the first tapping in this trap.

No procedure around how to install Cadence stuff or Candence stuff patched by TI on a Hyper-V managed VM??

    With best regards

    Gerhard

  • Hello Gerhard,

We would recommend reaching out to your IT team and providing them with the information shared in this thread.
