I tried to find the team responsible for this reference design but had no luck. I'm going to keep looking and will give you an update once I do. For the sake of not having this thread open for too long, I will temporarily close it and reply back once I hear find the appropriate contact who can provide the firmware files. I will give you an update in 2-3 business days. Please write a reply if you do not hear from me in three days.
I am also unable to find these files, but we have come a long way since this reference design and now include 1/256 ustepping in several integrated devices.
I am not sure on your stepper current needs, but please check out the DRV8824/26/28 as options to consider. The DRV8428 might be the best fit if your current needs are similar to the DRV8848.

I would love to use the chips you suggested, unfortunately they are unavailable and have long leadtimes.
Because of this I am using the DRV8428P. It uses a PWM drive scheme similar to the older DRV8848. I need at least 1/64 ustepping and nothing that offers that is available anytime soon.
I had hoped this firmware would give me a bit of a head start on a DRV8428P design but I pretty much know what it needs to do.
